How Tall Are You? Do You Look It?

This always cracks me up! At work some lady comes up and asks my height. I say "depends on how you measure, with shoes about 6'1, barefoot 6". SHe stand up close to me and says, "yeah, I guess so". Then she says that I look much taller and moreso from a distance. She said from down the hall I look really big! She thought I was about 6'4!

A few years ago in a volleyball league another player (6'4) asked. I gave the same dimensions but I was about 230 lbs. He says no way, that I must be 6'4 and 290 lbs!

I've been told I look much bigger than I really am by quite a few people. I guess that can be a good thing!

How about you?

It depends on which convenience store I'm leaving.

I'm 6' in my socks...but, yeah, people sometimes think I'm taller.
(personal charm and charisma have that effect, I'm told)

I love how that tape on the door indicates heights below 4' tall. If I was a clerk in a convenience store I would not give money to robbers under 4' tall.

I'm 6'8" and people never seem to ask when seated, even though i look like I'm sitting on playschool chairs. When I stand up most people freak when they see how much taller I am then they are.

I am 6' 4", weighing presently at 270#.

I have always received comments on my height and the advantages of being tall. Then one day was out with both sons doing some charity work (they are fire fighters). Each boy is 6' 6-1/2" tall, one is slender build the other much fuller frame with arms the size of my thighs, and upper body that fills a door way with only a size 40" waist. (he was a tight end / line in college. But never when I am around either of them.

My daughters are both 6', but my oldest hates the number 6, so when asked her height she replies, 5' 12". In fact when in school her volleyball team had no one listed over 6', a few 5' 12" and 5' 14" tall players but everyone was amazed how well they played without a single really tall player.

And it continues down the line, her son, my oldest grandson, is 7. When in Kindergarten, he brought home his school pictures, my daughter reviewing his class pictures asked, "Why are all the kids in the second row sitting and you are the only one standing?", he looked at her strangely and said, "they're standing too, Mom!"

I'm gonna tell Gina!

I told Gina the story. Only cause I met this chick like 2 months ago. Only cause I was the usual polite guy when we met, "Hello, how are you? Nice to meet you!" like any other, male or female. Right away she gave me some attitude. I could tell she was a drama queen so I avoided her rather than play her "why are you avoiding me?" game. Homie don't play dat!

I told Gina the sit, then told her she'd be friendly within time when she realizes I don't play games cause I'm happy with my wife. So after she asked, I sort of got the feeling she was sizing me up. So I answered politely then left he scene. Drives wimmins crazy when guys don't play along!..I told Gina and she said, "Yup, you're right, a drama queen".

Plus Gina aint the jealous type, well doesn't show it much......unless I offer to pump up another gal's tire!

I know what you mean about the kids! My son-in-law is 6'4 (so I had to put some fear in him, in a nice way!). My daughter is 5'6 but their son is 4 and taller than most 6 year old kids. Feel sorry for him at times cause everyone thinks he's a kid when he's still a baby in reality. Hard for him to play with kids his age. He's going to be a monster, now he's going to scare me!

SO does you daughter happent o live in Cali? I played on a coed team with some college VB team girls. I ran up to go for a ball when one girl (6') stepped back, cocked her arm and her elbow hit me right in the eye socket! Now that hurt and my eye was black and blue for a month!

6'6", 250 pounds.

I wouldn't be so bold as to say height/weight proportionate, but I know how to dress to hide my just slightly more than necessary pounds around the middle. Most people never guess that I weigh an eighth of a ton until they see me in my cycling clothes (which are far less flattering than a nicely tailored shirt and pressed trousers.)
Just about everyone understands my height when they walk past my cubicle and see my bike. A couple people have walked past, stopped, then walked back just to make sure they weren't just imagining that the saddle come up to their chest. (The top of my saddle is 43" from the floor.)

Nope, but she could easily have done the same task here in Indiana. When the arms are a swinging, step back and take offensive position.

You understand, your grandson would seem to be larger than the others as well.

Wife and I had experience with our oldest son, folks expected him to be 6 or 7 when he was only 4.

Same with my grandson, go to the park, he is playing with other kids and eventually some other parent comes up and asks, "is he really 4? or 5? or 6?" as the kids he is playing with are always older yet smaller.
Playing hide-go-seek or tag, it is dangerous to be behind him, if he decides to turn 180 and head back from where he came. It can be messy.

6'4" 245lbs but I have a fiance that's 5'2" so I must look like a giant. Used to get the "are you a bb player?" but I go to Auburn University so I am more average now than I used to be.

6'4'' 260. People generally think Im between 6'4'' and 6'6''. Fortunately I hide my weight well too and they are always surprised when I tell them my weight. Hoping to drop ~30 pounds before I graduate college and deadline is May 23rd.

5' 11"
250lb

First time I met my current physician I was sitting down. When I stood up she looked up at me (she'd about 5' 4") and said. "My, you are tall!"

I used to hate being female and 'guy height' but it's ok now. Helps that my sweetheart is 6' 4".

I used to win the "guess my weight" game at carnivals all the time. I look lighter than I am.
People routinely guess I'm around 180 (which is where I should be) and when I'm 180, they assume I'm 150.

Wow, some of you guys are really tall! I hate trying to find shirts at my height. Maybe I have a long torso but XXL shirts won't stay tucked too long. I can't image a 6'6 or 6'9 dude!

At 6'6" I can still find some decent off the rack clothes that don't need too much tailoring. The difficulty is finding things that accomodate a 48 1/2" chest without a corresponding 55" waist. Clothiers assume that if you're tall and have my chest measurement that you're also packing a sizeable belly, not that you used to be a powerlifter; so I get most of my shirts taken in at the waist (although, not as much as I'd like to get them taken in)
Dress trousers are easy, since the only measurement is the waist, and they're hemmed to fit at the cuffs (Men's Wearhouse, in case you're wondering.) Jeans and department store off-the-rack is tougher. Not a whole lot of options with a 37" inseam. Usually I go with a 36 and they're OK. Most 38s I need to cuff up a little bit, but I've found some that were OK. The big problem is finding a pair in that length that aren't 52" at the waist.
It's the typical issue with Big & Tall shops. It should be Big and/or Tall. Not all of us are extremes of both.

I'm sure that my difficulties are nothing compared to Mazama, who's got an additional 6" on my height.

6' 4" and was 216 this morning. I feel taller after removing a little mass. :-)

Down from around 245/250 -- has anyone else had to raise there seat height as the amount of built in padding diminished? Maybe I'm a little more flexible too..?...

Just about six one if standing upright. However, I don't look it because I'm stooped over much of the time.

I have the same long torso problem. Add my slouch and pot belly and finding shirts that fit becomes even more of a difficulty.
