Hello everyone! Bike Forums Rocks! It is so nice to find a group of people like myself in the cycling world. I am 6' 4" tall and weigh approx. 400 lbs. I tell my wife when I get clothing I have to find a store with a GIANT section.

I have nothing of value to trade or offer ATM, as a returning 35 year old married student with a family, times are tough.

However, I have been dreaming of getting ahold of some bibs and/or jerseys. Like just 1 or 2 so that I can experience that ride that I see my father-in-law do. He used to race WAY back when, and I see all of the wonderous colorful jerseys and such he has gotten throughout his years of cycling. Anyhow If you have something that might work, please let me know, maybe we can work something out.

My current sizes are 50 waist - 4X polo shirt - 14.5 narrow(D) shoe.

Hi Clydezilla, welcome to the forums. I am 6'3" and was once 300 pounds and lost 100 lbs in five months. I wear a size 15 shoe. Keep riding. It will do amazing things for you and for your health.

Have;

26" (ISO 559) rear MTB wheel, 36H, new Alex Adventurer rim, Wheelsmith DH13 spokes, very heavy duty, black disc (6 bolt) hub, black rim with brake surfaces machined, brass eyelets, 130mm or 135mm OLD (let me know how you want it set before I ship it), bolt on. Hub is a CL salvage, with new bearings and cones.

The 26" wheel was built up when we were considering purchasing a Mongoose AL Wanderer Tandem. After working out the upgrade costs, we found the Trek T50, and decided that was a much better deal. This wheel is a perfect upgrade for a Wanderer; or a Clyde's solo bike.

27" (ISO 630) 36H QR front alloy wheel, rebuilt with Wheelsmith SS14 spokes; hub and rim have less than 500 miles on hub, 0 miles since re-spoking.

27" (ISO 630) 36H rear, alloy rim, freewheel 5/6/7 S, 126mm OLD, rebuilt with Wheelsmith DH13 spokes on the drive (right) side and SS14 spokes on the non drive side; hub and rim have less than 300 miles.

The 27" wheels were purchased last year for my World Tourist. They are low end; quick release on the front, bolt on at the rear. It was not long before I had a spoke failure, then another. I found some vintage Suze-Araya 36H/40H sealed bearing wheels on ebay that have proven to be perfect and rugged. After the getting the Suze-Araya wheels, I rebuilt these with Wheelsmith spokes. I have been holding these as spares, but after more than 1500 commuting miles, I see no need to have spare wheels.

All of the wheels are true both radially and axially to better than .010" (0.25mm); have high tension and have been stress relieved.

Want:
* 9 speed capable Shimano rear derailleur with 36T cog capacity (on the cassette).
* 12/36T 9 speed cassette (Shimano HG61 or similar)
* 48H 145mm OLD 8/9S rear cassette hub with threading for drum brake or ISO (6 bolt) disc mounting.
* Specialized CROSSROADS ARMADILLO 700 x 38c tires (new or nearly new only)

I have a 21"/53cm Trek Multitrack 720 bike in tuned up (by a professional) exc. condition. I find the index shifting clunky but it works. I find the handlebar W shape less ideal for me than a flat bar handlebar.

I am interested in 53cm 1980's steel road/touring bikes, like Trek, i have a 311 from 1982. Id like to add to my collection.

Women's Mt.Borah Micro Jersey size 3x. I wore it as a 2x and it had some roominess. Retails for about 50 bux.
Awesome condition, no rips stains or tears. There is a tiny snag or two probably easy to remove.

I'm just going to put my intro post here, since I have a for trade at the end. My name's T.J. and I used to care very little about my health - I weighed 520lbs 23 months ago. I won't bore you with the emotional changes involved, but I had gastric bypass after losing 100lbs in 12 months. My GB was on 8/13/10, and I'm down to 235-245 from 428.5 on the date of surgery. I realize that GB was drastic, but it was a necessary decision in my case. I've been cycling off and on for about 5 months now - my grandparents bought me a Walmart tank to surprise me for all that I had accomplished at my 6 month "surgiversary."

So, I'm at an impasse: I've been tracking 2.2, 2.4, 2.5 miles everyday on my walmart mountain bike on uphill/downhill roads where I live everyday, and I'm really enjoying it. I'm looking to upgrade to some kind of an entry level road bike that will fit my support needs. I have some sound equipment for sale (JL audio stealth box and memphis amp from my Scion XB I sold ) that I would be willing to trade evenly for a bike. I've also thought about trying to find a guide and buying parts one at a time because that's so much more rewarding, but I'm not sure if I would stick with it if I did that and it took me six months. I just got married three weeks ago and biking has been my main destressor (we both went back to work almost immediately) since then.

Thanks for reading my long-winded post and I'd love to hear some people's thoughts on this. Like I said, I don't know very much about bikes or cycling (nothing at all, really - just what I've gleaned from my experience and reading here).

First of all, congratulations. Secondly, you won't bore us. Folks here like reading success stories. And you are a success story.

However, you might want to make an "introduction" post here in Clydes/Athenas and get advice about any upgrade bike you consider. Review Craigslist for used bikes in good condition. But start an introduction/here are my questions/here are my needs thread anyway.

I am in Los Angeles. I have 2 hybrid steel framed bikes in size 54cm. One is a Trek Multitrack 720. Other is a Univega Via Carisma. Both have 21 speeds and are from approx 1995. I got them in the last 6 months and have had them serviced periodically by a local repair tech to put and keep in top repair, as I rode them to drop weight. Now i am able to ride road bikes comfortably as i dropped some weight. I still like these bikes and ride them sometimes but I am open to trades. Not looking to ship due to cost, doesnt make any $ sense to ship, so local to S. Calif only. I could always use more road bikes (I like size 56cm) and also some good lights. Also a good modern digital camera. Open to other offers.

Probably no one wants to trade anything for a pair of platform pedals, but I have a pair to trade if you do. They were the original pedals that came on my Trek 7000. These pedals have about 30 miles on them.

Im looking for bibs (long) or jerseys. wear a size 44 pants and xxxL shirt. Could add some money to the deal is needed.

hay everyone! i dont have anything to trade, but if someone had a rigid 29er fork that had laying around please!!! let me know!!! im rolling around on a X-mart 29er and i just dont trust the suspension fork that came with it. not at my weight. =)

I have a pair of Agu brand touring/MTB shoes that are labeled as a 43 but are actually a size or two smaller and I can barely squeeze them onto my feet. SPD compatible. Hopefully someone can use them.

Looking for long sleeve jersey or jacket (not black) with a 54 inch chest. I have several short sleeved jerseys including one that says it is a 5x but no way, it is more like a larger or it could be a womans 5x cause it sure doesn't fit me.

HAVE: 48 hole 27" Super Champion rear built with 2.0/14 gauge spokes. Freewheel/thread-on hub.. generic Sansin hub which is smooth and strong. Spaced 126mm at 6/7 speeds. Less than 200 miles on this (new components) hand built wheel.. straight, round and strong.

Wants: Shimano FH 5500 in 8-10 sp rear hub. Or similar.

I have a pair of baggy 3X mountain bike shorts from Aerotech Designs. These are the Outlaw Bullet Mountain Bike shorts with the chamois pad built in. I may have worn them one time over the summer, but like the road bike spandex style better, so even if I did use them, it was only for one 2 or 3 mile ride.

I am looking for a 3X light weight outer jacket. Something I can use as a top layer over my jersey and fleece to ride in winter. I am currently using a windproof golf jacket, but it doesn't breathe at all, so I need something to let the sweat out. If the jacket runs small, I may need a 4X (i.e. probably any of the Italian brands). It has been a while since I've measured my chest but guessing in the area of 54"; 44" waist.

I have a pair of Canari Lycra men's riding shorts. They are an XXL, and fit me about right at a size 44 waist. Might fit up to a 46. Maybe. I'm getting close to a 42 now and they are getting baggy. Not looking for anything in trade, unless you just happen to have something I can use. Cover the shipping and they are yours.
