101 Windy Miles...Ride video

12/28....101 miles on the trail. Ran into LewisAClark who can verify that it was WINDY. Got a little help from Tammy taking a pull, about 3 miles. Sheesh, every little break helps! I did the trail twice to make the hundred, just racking up mileage trying to stay ahead of LewisAC on bikejournal...Started a bit late so it was just about dark when I finished.

My legs were toast from the tandem ride the day before with Gina. It was windy that day too. In the vid, LewisAClark mentions that he was doing 10 mph right out of the gate, that's how windy it was starting out into a headwind.

Wind, tired legs and wondering if I'd do the 100, I finished in 6:30. Not very fast but I was just happy to rack 100 after asking having doubts several times along the way.

Only problem is the peeps in the lens don't speak up. I might have to start carrying a microphone!...Funny how shy people get when you put them on camera.

Well, not in pictures, most are willing to pose, but on video, they change!

I was out riding a brevet on the 19th. The route was basically south with a tailwind the first half, and then back north into a headwind the second half. I did my fastest 100k ever going south, and my slowest 100k ever coming back north. Wind is rough.

Nice video as usual Mr. Beanz! Makes those of us who are snowbound jealous.
Are you using the "brainsucker" mount on your helmet?

I'm doing the camera freehand. I did order a brainsucker but it might take about 2 weeks for delivery from China (only place available). Free shipping though, only $10.

If 13 years of consistent riding at 4,000-7,300 miles a year means life is good, then yes, life is good!.....Even when our kids were young, I found a way to stay active even if it meant lifting weights in the garage at 10 pm or running the highschool track at 9 pm after a day of work and playing with the kids.

Lets say for years and years my money and time has gone to ping pong tables, rollerblades and bikes etc to play with the kids and never a dime to waste time drinking beer or a minute hanging at a bar or happy hour with friends. Something that all my friends and relatives do while complaining for the last 25 years that I have too much time to ride and play!

From 1995 thru 1998, I worked all week, every Saturday and half the Sundays and still managed to ride min 3000 miles a year. Gina works 10 and 11 hours everyday and managed to ride 3600 miles this year. Out of curiosity, how many miles did you ride this year?

Wow - the more you post the more I become jealous. You have bike trails that measure 50 miles?! Not only do I envy your beautiful SoCal weather, but your cycling infastructure as well. Nice vid, especially the sunset.

Some sexy fine arse Mamma that works in the nearby office building. She asked me out for a drink and some early evening fun but I told her I was married, don't drink and was only there to ride my bike!

1125 and that was a stretch, I played a fair amount of golf and tennis, and sailed some. 5000+ miles and working fulltime just seems impossible to me. More power to you Course we have winter here. Which cuts the season to eight months.

Wow, you should join bikejournaldotcom, you'll find a ton of riders that do 5000 plus. MrkAdam (clyde poster) does over 6000(?), LewisAClark in my video is right behind me at 6500 miles. Dutchboy2 from the socal forum is 13000 +. I know he works nights. Not sure if any of them play golf though!

Gina rides strictly weekends an did 3000 in 2007,2008 and 3600 in 2009.....all on the weekends. If a ride was ever on a weekday, it was on a holiday Monday or Friday, otherwise strictly weekends.

my guess is that with a 6.5 hour time for the 101 miles you averaged a hair over 15.5 mph. if you were going 10-12 mph upwind did you break the sound barrier downwind?

Heck NO!...Everytime I switched directions, it seemed the wind did too. When I was heading to Imperial, it wa blowinghard (video). When I was was heading back to the truck (nightfall section of vid) you can hear the headwind howling too. It was a tough day. If it weren't for the cheeseburger, I never would have made it!
