First Century in the Bag.
Woke up feeling good this morning, got a couple days rest. The weather was perfect so i figured what the heck lets go for the century. I did it in 6:15, yes I know slow. I didn't rest enough or eat enough, I thought I brought enough but I underestimated. I am doing a century Feb. 22 and I'm glad I did this today, it will definately help me improve on the "Tour de Cure" ride. I feel much more sore than I would normally but I literally finished an hour ago so we'll see how things turn out by later tonight.

Good job. The five hundred will come easy for you this month. I was thinkin about you on my ride in yesterday morning. Watching my breath in the air, feeling my feet go numb, listening to the studded tires on the pavement. All the while wondering what it would be like to ride in Florida right now... You probably stopped for one of those fancy drinks with the little paper umbrella, and rested at the beach too, didn't you!

Well if it makes you feel better, when i wake up the next few days it will be in the mid 40's. Hopefully by noon it will break 60. We'll see how things work out, I may have to wear a long sleeve base layer.

Jess.........what was your longest ride prior to doing the century? You will be a bit warmer in Miami then us in central Florida..We are getting high 20's to low 30's.....The are worried about the fruit aka strawberries and citrus. I hope it warms up by Saturday as I have at least 40 miles to ride...I signed up for the century in the Tour de Cure in Venice 03/01 and I am not sure I'll be able to do it....My longest ride so far is 50 miles.

Since when is a 6h 15m century "slow"?
Maybe for a lightweight racer on a 16 pound bike it is, but 6h 15m is a 16mph average. Not too shabby, IMO.

Congratulations.
And, no, 6:15 is not slow. It's an excellent time, especially for a first century, and especially for unsupported (it sounds like).

That's right -- you did it 18 minutes faster than I did my first century, and you get brownie points for an unsupported ride.

Longest ride prior was 70 miles, my training aka riding has been about 125 miles a week. 1 60 mile ride, 1 45 mile ride, a 16 intense ride, and 12 mile leisurely ride. What I started doing recently is riding up this large bridge in key biscayne, simply ride up and down multiple times. At first I could barely go up and down once. Now i can do it 8 times.
Sorry no photos, I was really zoned in until about mile 80. I took a wrong turn, kinda got lost but was able to get back on track. The roads here are numbered and the area i was riding has little traffic for Miami. I think that is were the eating and breaks hurt me, I literally only got off the bike for total of probably 20 minutes. 80 percent of nutrients came from light high calorie drinks.

EIGHT TIMES on the Key Biscayne bridge is an accomplishment on itself!! Granted, I've been cycling for about a month, but I had to stop when going up that bridge the other day... TWICE!
Congrats on your century too!

Great Work! 6:15 is super. Mine took me 8 hours. Congratulations!
I always like to ask: What did you eat/drink along the way?

ok total consumption was
a clif bar about 3 hours prior
2 bottles sustained energy 1.5 scoops each with a shot of hammer gel in each bottle approx 500 calories.
Two bottles of Heed about 200 calories for both.
1 clif bar mid ride 250 calories
3 coconut candies i picked up along the way 280 calories each
a half botle of gatorade
a bottle of recoverite afterwards
so total of approx 1800 calories, i probably could have used more or replaced the sustained energy with perpetuem
