With all the good news you have on your weight loss, you really should remove the "Stormcrowe" part from your name.

Amazing work on losing the weight! really inspiring and very dramatic transformation. It takes lots of will power to keep at it.

As for the song(for the person that asked), it is called 'Asturias' by Isaac Albeniz.

The Asturias, by Albeniz. It's a dramatic classical guitar piece I've always loved!

That's awesome, Tom. You're really a motivation. I hope you don't mind, I sent a link to your video to my dad (5'10" 290lbs) as an invitation to get on a bicycle. He complains about not getting the time to go to the gym and get on the stationary, but he only lives 2 miles from work. Maybe I can get him on a bike by spring.

Tom,

That is quite the accomplishment. You are an inspiration in so many ways. Losing weight is one thin, but changing your whole life from one of relative inactivity to a very active lifestyle is truly impressive.

Tom, can you say more about the surgery you referenced having? (just before starting to ride, yes?)
And what's Empty Sella Syndrome?
And it doesn't say where you are now (at X-mas time) in terms of weight/fitness.

OK, I had the Roux-N-Y Bariatric procedure on March 2005. I started put at 581 pounds and am currently as of Dec 24 weighing in @ 220 flat.

Empty Sella Syndrome: A metabolic disease, because of partial or full failure of pituitary function...(in my case caused by trauma in a truck accident) that causes massive and virtually uncontrollable weight gain. I have to take replacement hormones and had the surgery because my weight had gotten so high I was more or less wheelchair bound, couldn't stand more than two minutes or walk more than 50 feet. Needless to say this caused me some difficulty exercising.

My early back story is on one of my blogsites, located at https://theamazingshrinkingman.blogspot.com . That's my original blog and I also mirror at MSN and Livejournal currently.

Inspiration

Congratulations. Yours is an uplifting story sure to inspire all who read it. It is a long journey and requires a mindset to keep on keeping on, but you know that. Two years already and you seem to have kept the momentum which is itself another story. Last summer I rode Ragbrai and noticed a fellow who must have been at least 340lbs riding a new blue Schwinn road bike. In the hot Iowa sun he was sweating bullets and unable to ride up most hills and walked his bike to the top of them. He never stopped, he forged on ahead, never quitting, he kept on going. Having lost weight I wanted to tell him how I thought and give him credit for his effort, but that would have been my story and the ride was his. I began to look for him and remember silently rooting, but he didn't need it, he had a strong mindset and kept on going. I never spoke with him so I don't know where it was he started but that's not important as I know where he is going and it is in the right direction. Every Clyde understands how hard he, and you have worked and are inspired by it. I'm sure on the next Ragbrai I won't know him, but I'll recognize the blue Schwinn. Thank you for having the courage to tell your story and showcase it the way you have. As I struggle myself with weight I will think of you guys and take inspiration from it.

I went to 219 from 581 in just under two years. I seem to have plateaued at 219 for now, but I'm feeling a whole lot better now than then!
