I remember in my 20's thinking the older guys with ultra light bikes were funny cause it would be so much cheaper to lose fat than shave grams off a bike. Now here I am with a gut and I still have my light bikes

I went and got my food allergies tested and cut out what I was sensitive to...unfortunately gluten.
Apparently eating stuff we are sensitive to causes us to retain a lot of water from inflammation.

Seriously I was still eating a lot just no wheat and no more pop.
It was the easiest weight I've ever lost. Just wanted to pass that along to anyone that was feeling stuck.

I've plateaued now that the inflammation is gone, but I don't have that puffy look and its easier to get down in the drops. I'm hoping I can shoot more weight when the weather gets more bike friendly.

The other interesting tidbit I learned from the doc I was seeing is that you can't just look at a thyroid test and say it falls within the "normal" range. You have to look at the person to see if they show signs of low thyroid. He said that a healthy level for you might be at the higher part of the "normal" range while you were producing at the lower end of the "normal" range. BTW signs for me were low body temp and losing outside ends of eyebrows...

I'll add that my goal is 210 by the Hotter than Hell 100 at the end of August. We'll see though

I am also curious about the food allergy, I have a friend who thinks he is allergic to the same thing but he is a hypochondriac and I am skeptical. Besides the bloat, what happens when you eat it?

First let me say that I went into this 100% skeptical but my Mom asked me to go see the doctor see had just seen so I did...

The one I went to did a whole workup of blood tests and I had to collect my urine for a 24 hour period to test the various levels of hormones etc in my body.

The allergy or sensitivity test was one of the blood tests. They use some magic to find what foods your system has a hystamine reaction to. In about a week you get back a long list of foods with a bar graph next to each one showing the level of reaction to it. Wheat Gluten was my big one...apparently one lots of people have.

Eating things you are sensitive causes inflammation throughout your system. The other place I noticed it was my knees don't hurt anymore. Barry Sears (author of The Zone diet) has a new book out that I haven't read called the Anti-inflammation Zone or something like that.

He said something about internal yeast blooms from too many anti-biotics and eating things that feed the bloom...not sure on that one yet.

I can say that the measurement around my stomach went down 4 or 5" during that time period and my stomach is no longer in the way of bending over.

Some people get a sudden pressing need to go to the bathroom if they eat what they are sensitive to after weaning themselves off of it.

I'll note that my color of skin has also changed to a more healthy hue.

Wow, sounds like something that I would like to do!

I have a feeling that I have quite a few small allergies, nothing anaphalactic, but none the less it would be good to know!

The doc was saying we usually eat a lot of whatever it is we are sensitive to...something to do with an endorphine rush or something like that...sorry I don't remember the specifics. I'm sure if you look it up all will be explained better than I've done here.

All I know is that while cutting out wheat sucked, it was the easiest weight I ever lost. Still ate the same amount of food and was losing a pound or so a day in water weight from inflammation.

Its the same effect but less extreme as someone thats puffed up from a shellfish allergy. And the 10 weeks might be a long estimate of how quick that weight came off.

Thanks for the info! For some reason, there has been a lot of information on that subject on the tube and I've met 3 or 4 people that have food allergies that were originally misdiagnosed.

Its coming up more now because they are just discovering the damage constant inflammation causes to the body over time.
