Sunday Afternoon Ride in Southern Tennessee (with Pics)

I went for a 48 mile ride this afternoon and got a good bit of it in before the rain started, and the last hour was not too soggy. I left my house in North Alabama and rode through southern Lincoln County in Tennessee. I had ridden a longer version of this ride a few weeks ago, but had to shorten it some today to fit it in the time frame that I had.

This is a common route with my cycling club just because of the scenery and the hills. About 20 miles in today I had a fairly significant downhill that is one of my favorite stretches of road that I have been on. It is about a mile long, with fairly smooth pavement and just enough curve to make it exciting. I hit a top speed of 44 mph on the way down, which is a new record for me. The route then borders Coldwater Creek for about 6 miles before it starts a shallow 5 mile climb back out of the valley.

I finally remembered to take my camera today, so I have a few scenery pics to share.

I have been on some Tennessee roads on motorcycle, and bicycle and never take a camera with me, it is usually with the in-laws. THere are some great sights and you showed us a few.

thanks for sharing. I do like seeing different parts of this country. Shows how much difference there is and how much it is alike.

Temps are all over the place this time of year. Yesterday the high was 72 with a low of around 40. We had a cold front that came through last night so the highs for the next few days will be in the mid 40's with the lows in the upper 20's. By Wednesday the high should be up to 65, and by the end of the week, we should be back in the mid 70's. Another month and our typical highs will be in the 80's.

What is funny is that I live in an area that is just flat, slightly rolling farmland. The pictures were taken just 20 miles north of my house. If you 20 miles east of my house, you will be in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. It makes for a great area to ride in with lots of variety. There were times yesterday that I wold go for 20 minutes without seeing a car.
