U-turn and a separated shoulder

Luckly it was not me with the injury. My normal sunday morning group ride started as usual but with a faster pace. at mile 7 the group is coming up to an older guy and we are cruising at 22MPH. the leader of the group called "passing on the left". the guy without looking bangs a U-turn and the group leader T-bones the guy. the resulted carnage is our guy separating his left shoulder and potentially a mild concussion. he landed on his head hard enough to crack the helmet all the way through. the old guy that got hit claimed that he didnt hear the leader's yell in which the whole group responded that "if it was a car instead of a bike, you would be dead". The guy didn't even flinch and gave the whatever look and said "i had no idea you were coming". the police come, take his statement then rides home without anything more than a single scratch. i know someone is going to say my guy should have given a good amount of room to pass. it was a side road and he moved to the dead middle of the road before getting taken out. simply unbelievable.

the rest of the day was less interesting. at mile 20 i bonked. bad! for about 15 minutes i had to just follow the wheel in front of me cause i dont think mentally i was on planet earth. i finally go OTB with 3 miles to go. by the end of the ride everybody but 2 went OTB, so i still felt good for my effort. the best part of the day came when one of the guys that i rode with last year pulls in and says "you were a Fing animal today". after a quick ego stroke off to the gym i went. did 40 minutes worth of laps in the pool and a mile on the treadmill to be sure there were no fitment issues with my tri suit.

So overall a good final long day of training for the sprint triathlon a week from now.

I hope your friend is okay, and that he also gets himself a copy of that police report!

should know later this week how he is doing. i dont know what he is going to do about it, but his bike was the only of the group to have full campy setup. both front and rear rims were in bad condition after the crash. he said he separated his shoulder back in the 80's once and he was off the bike for 3 months.

Sorry to hear it. I got a grade 3 AC shoulder separation about 5 weeks ago when I crashed coming down off a mountain. This is going to be a PIA for the rest of my life. It doesn't actively hurt now, but I have a huge lump on my shoulder, and it hurts when I move it in certain ways. Sometimes it feels like the bone is going to punch right through the skin.
