This might influence my being a clyde... Maybe

Hey guys, haven't been on in a while. Things are busy at work and doing a bit of riding (not as much as I hopped, stripped a pedal and crank, got them replace on warrenty and upgraded the pedals). So have been much more comfortable. Went out today for a fun day at the park with Kim and Caleb and figured this might lead to me being a clyde. What do you think?

Wow Bucheon huh?
I used to live there about 20 years ago.
Went back recently and didn't recognize anything.
Have you tried the cass red yet?
I'm an OB guy but folks say it's pretty tasty.
Happy riding

I'm waiting for someone to make a bottle cage that holds one of those little Heineken kegs. That would be cool. A tap handle mounted on the top tube. Just think of it!

I get funny looks after a long ride when I am headed home with a cup of ice cream in a bottle cage. I haven't drank in 15+yrs so ice creams my indulgence usually.

I bet somewhere there is someone trying to figure out how to mount six cages on their bike

Nah, got six figured out rather easily..... it's anything above that where one has to start getting resourceful and start thinking out of the box.

I thought that's what they made racks for? They are just the size to fit a small cooler with some ice on.

Then where do you put the sandwiches and chips? I suppose if you want to go the easy route a front basket would do, but it feels like cheating.

Ah Man, now you got me thinking... The possibilities are endless. I do like the idea of a small keg jerry rigged with a tap coming out the front. What's that everyone says, at our weight, weight doesn't make that much of a difference, so what's a 12lbs keg gonna do?

I'm one step ahead of ya! I've got the mini-keg, now I'm just trying to find a tap that I can attach a presto valve to so I can put my CO2 pump to good use!

This gets me thinking that the local constabulary will probably frown on such a device. In some places driving drunk on a bicycle and driving drunk in a car will result in the same penalties. Of course strapping said keg to the rear rack while transporting it home in a sealed condition will be looked upon favourably

Actually, one of the beautiful things about living in Korea is that Public drinking is not frowned upon. In fact it's very welcome and expected. Beach, park, walking from bar to bar... In fact most convinence store have plastic tables and chairs set up so you can stop in, have a little nip and then be on your very merry way. Maybe it's one of the reasons that I have stayed so long!

No, not at all, they are tight on that. I've never seen so many road blocks and station checks before. I personally think it is fantastic. Once, on a drive home from work I had to do a spot breathalyzer 5 times. All within about a 15 Km drive. That was insane but, I must admit I thanked every police officer cause it made me feel safe. I don't condone drinking and driving, nor do I drink and drive, nor do I let my friends drink and drive. I do however enjoy being free to enjoy a beer at the park or at the beach without being worried that I'll get booked for public intoxication or public drinking.

They do checks here too, typically during the DUI season the last half of November to the end of December (we know nobody drinks and drives at other times ) The process is this, they block traffic so that only one vehicle can pass through at a time. The officer asks you if you have been drinking while leaning in your window, if you admit to it or the officer thinks you have been drinking, then you have to do a quickie breath test. If your all clear you get a coupon book (I wish they would do the ice scraper again),
The machine has 3 modes, green, your okay (under .05), yellow (.05 - .07) your off the road, you can pick up your licence at the police station in 12 hours. .08 or more, your going to the station for a formal breath test, fail that and your charged with DUI. Pass it and your back to off the road for 12 hours.

What I find really funny, they have been doing this for well over a decade, yet they still lay thousands of charges every year, IMNSHO this means the penalties for getting caught are too low. I have long thought that the penalty for drunk driving should be a permanent loss of licence, with the ability, after a suitable waiting period (say 5 years) to start the process of becoming a licenced driver all over again. The fine for driving with a cancelled licence should be a fine of not less then $25,000, and they restart the waiting period.

As for being drunk in a public place, although illegal here, I think it's a convenience charge, it allows an officer to take you in, when your sober they kick you lose again. There are a few charges on the books where the penalty is 12 hours in jail, they don't even bother with the court, and there are no records kept.

I could say more, but I have just been informed by the resident (remaining) cat that the box needs cleaning

Where i live, people get dui's for riding lawn-tractors and atv's along with their elevated blood-alcohol levels....so i wouldnt put it past our local boys-in-blue to issue a citation for biking while intoxicated
here's hoping i never get stopped

While I don't think you should be riding while intoxicated, unless you whack a pedestrian your not likely to hurt anyone else, unlike the operator of a 2 ton killing machine, who has on many occasions taken out just about everyone he came across save himself.

Most of the drunks I've seen driving drive slow as hell; paranoia wins and they end up doing no more than 30MPH on the freeway... with all the hills around here it's cake to hit 25MPH on a bike and at that speed you can do a LOT of damage. It's not as severe as fighting with the inertia of a vehicle's mass, but it's still enough to kill someone if you hit them just right. I don't think the penalties here are too high for DUI while on a bike, I do think they're nowhere near severe enough for a DUI while in control of a motor vehicle.

True...i sometimes would find myself tinkering with one of the bikes in the garage after a couple jack 'n cokes...then i'd have to take it for a test ride around the neighborhood to test my "work"

But i can see that a 250lb slab of meat on a two-wheeled piece of metal could do some damage to himself/others if he were doing, say 20mph...that kind of impact would be bad, bad news

I don't know, having a few drinks and then dealing with some sharp metal bits, heck you can do damage to yourself BEFORE you get on

hmmmm, i see where you're going with this...i rarely ever get falling-down drunk anymore(i do know my limits)...but i enjoy the nice little 2-drink buzz that takes the edge off of an exhausting work night...and at times i like to tinker, while at that stage...but i've never had an incident where i got careless and cut myself on anything...except that time when i was 5 years old and i was told not to run around the house with scissors, but.........

Yeah, I'd better set the record straight too. When I started this thread it was more of a light hearted ponder. However, I do feel the need to justify, I do not condone or hope that I will ever be in the condition that I am actually drunk on my bike. But I do enjoy having the option, as a responsible adult, to enjoy a beer in the park on a hot summer day, without it being an offence. I am usually out with my wife and son, so getting hammered is not really an option. When the mention of drinking and driving came up It got me to thinking. I never drink and drive because I've lost a cousin to a drunk driver. And Come to think of it, my cousin was cycling home, got ploughed into by a drunk driver who got off cause of some people that he knew and Drinking and Driving was not a big thing then. This is back in the 70's. and I can honestly say, that every time that I have been in the position that I could have driven drunk, I could just see Bobby's eyes looking at me and saying: Don't do it man, Don't do it! And I am proud to say that I never did drink and drive. I'd take a cab and pick up my car in the morning. My parents never complaind about having to drive me out to fetch my car that I had left at the bar car park. I wish that everyone had a Bobby in their lives. Howver the sad part is in order to have him looking after me, I've had to lose him in my life!

RIP Bobby Roussel
Thanks for keeping an eye out on me!

Eric...
