so I'm thinking bib shorts under a T-shirt....

I have a couple pair of bike shorts, but neither of which has turned out to be a good solution. One is a pair of Trek club shorts, which fit good except for muffin top syndrome. My customary yellow T-shirt is so baggy now that it snags on everything (it was pretty oversized even when I was 380#). But I'm still way too big to even think about wearing a jersey, and I prefer loose clothing anyway. Wearing regular shorts over the bike shorts dont work well because of the slippery lycra - they just slide down too far.

I also have a pair of Bellwether baggies, but although they're nice shorts they're not baggy in the least. Just standing around they fit and look OK but the outer shell is tight enough to make getting on/off a bike problematic. And since they don't stretch flexibility is limited.

So......I need to either find a good pair of bib shorts that I can either wear a regular T-shirt over and even better yet some kind of shorts that fit loosely but not too loose and allow for a full range of motion. I probably could do without just as long as no one looked too closely

Are there any jerseys out there that are *ahem* "loose cut?" so to speak?

Any other options?

btw I'm 5-10 and about 305, I can wear a 42" pair of jeans under the spare tire or a 54" pair of dress slacks on the spare tire, if that's of any help. Thanks!

Tom

So I'm not the only guy with a sizable gut.

Get a 'club cut' jersey. They are cut looser than 'racing cut'. Most Performance and Nashbar jerseys are club cut.

I suggest going with bibs to avoid the problem of shorts rolling down on you when you ride.

For most of last year, when I was losing weight regularly, I wore a pair of Champion running shorts that I picked up at Target. They worked very well. They have an inner liner like a swimsuit, so they stay snugly in place, but they are baggy and made of lycra, polyester blend so they move well. I still use them for duathlons when I am running and riding.

I wear a wicking t-shirt, jerseys are against my religion. (You can get them at stores like Sports Authority.)

I'm not big and I just dropped under 200lbs, but I will sneak in here and give my 2 cents. I commute in bibs and t-shirts. I tried shorts, even mountain bike shorts, and my crotch does not like those. I use Under Armour synthetic T-shirts, no cotton for me.

I've purchased a few of these. https://bit.ly/uFgrq

Wear them over the bibs. They are meant as "work wear", so are generously cut. Had to buy one size smaller in my case (M vs. L). Good moisture wicking fabric. In addition, it makes me very visable to four wheeled traffic.

I'm 5'11" 270 and Twin Six xxxl fit me wonderfully.

Or why not try one of the dry wick material shirts that stores like wal-mart sell. I also was able to find these in xxxl.

That pic is of a XXXL twin six jersey, I also have a shirt underneath. The length and the girth fit me well.

I own numerous Primal Wear jerseys and have found their cut to be quite flattering. That said, it looks like they've recently revised this sizing recommendations. When I initially purchased their jerseys, they said that an XL fit someone with a 42-44" chest. That worked perfect for me, giving a fit that was loose enough to appear flattering but not overly loose. Now, they're saying that XL fits someone with a 44-46 inch chest. I suspect that the jerseys are actually the same size, you're just going to end up with a tighter fit. Love2Pedal still has the old sizing chart up on their Primal product pages, FWIW.

I've recently started switching my cycling wardrobe to a lot of PI gear. Their 2XL bibs do me pretty well for torso length (I'm 6'6") and for general girth (38" at the waist, 42" at the belly). The padding and the fabric for their Microsensor line of stuff is awesome. It's their mid-range of clothing, so it doesn't have the super 'racing' cut to the bibs (shorter inseam, tighter compression, etc.)

For jerseys, I have a Voler XL club fit from my company team, a Garneau XL club fit from the TdC and they're both OK. The Voler is a bit on the tight side, closer to a race cut. The Garneau is a true club fit and hangs a bit loose on me.
My favourite, though, is going back to the old school: Woolistic merino wool jerseys are awesome. The only gripe about them is that they're knitted on an old school machine to old school sizing specifications. At 6'6" and 250 pounds, I'm about the biggest guy who'll fit into a Triple-XL.
If you don't need the zip neck and jersey pockets, there are plenty of places that sell merino wool shirts (Smartwool, as a brand name) for less than the price of an Ibex or Vintage Velos jersey, too. Wool is breathable, evaporates sweat well so you stay cool in the summer, and retains heat even when sopping wet so you won't get a chill if it rains.

I see the sizing is M or L - what do you normally wear in a T-shirt?

Usually wear a Large. Medium fits me better in this shirt.

thanks for the info. I like the idea (and price) but I think they'll be too small for me.

I bought mine at a brick and mortar store. I remember seeing at least a XXL. Maybe you can find one to try on.

Like I said they are meant for ladies and gentlemen working on road construction, etc. They are a roomier cut.

Look lower on the page for Big Men's Size (2XL)

Heh, you folks need to add some X's.....I wear a 4X, though I have a pullover hoodie that's a 3x (runs big). Problem is, the sleeves are sometimes too long and occasionally the shoulders too. But on the upside I have skinny butt syndrome (goes well with muffin top, lol) and I can easily wear 2x shorts. Even just XL sometimes.

Checked a couple of the links, but so far not any XXX or XXXX stuff yet. I reckon I'm about 35 to 50 pounds away from being able to buy 3XL shirts for the time being.

I am 6' and around 250 lb. / 40" waist and wear plain white xxl jerseys from performance or nashbar over my bibs.

I'm 5'10 and 322 (down from 396 and still going) and having similar issues. I just ordered a couple of discounted jerseys from Nashbar. Will probably order some stuff from Aerotech and/or Mt. Borah shortly. The Aerotech big man bibs have been awesome, same with the Mt. Borah Freedom Exercise pants over the bibs for chilly days (both 4XL, but getting ready to trade down). I have a Twin Six 3XL jersey (short sleeve version of the one JessPal has on) and tried it on last night. Sausage Casing. Safely at least 15 lbs away from being comfortable, maybe more like 25.

I'm about the same size, I have a 54-56 chest and wear the Mt. Borah 3X size in their jersey's and can fit into their 2xl bibs, it is quite comfortable in fact. You can buy them direct from them or get the jerseys through Aerotech Designs.

I just switched to bib shorts from regular shorts and I like the fit much better. They weren't cheap, but I don't have to deal with the crotch sag you get in regular shorts.
I'm 5'11, 230 with muscular quads and XLs fit pretty snug

For wicking t-shirts, I've had good luck with these: https://alertshirt.com/performance.html

After all the recommendations here, I really tried to wear bib shorts, but they just didn't work out. These are still my favorite shorts: https://www.aerotechdesigns.com/baggy...baggybikeshort

What some riders do, is they wear a pair of bicycle shorts as underwear (they are meant to be worn commando style), then put a pair of regular shorts over them. After a while though you just say, heck with it, and wear only the cycling shorts, unless you need the other shorts for something. For example when going shopping, I often wear other shorts over so that I have pockets for keys and wallet when in the store. Thinking of picking up a fanny pack or something similar instead though.....

Jerseys have pockets in the back, and are much more expensive then a wicking (runners) T-shirt. So regular shorts over bike shorts or a fanny pack works out to being a lot more sensible to a lot of people, then spending a lot of extra money (I don't have) on jerseys.
