Well I became just another regular Clyde today....

At least until I ate a banana, an orange and swilled a bottle of water :)

Weighed in at 298.8 after waking up this afternoon (I work nights). First time I been under 300 since the late 1990's except for a one month stretch in the summer of 2000. Too bad I have to freakin' STARVE myself to death to do it tho...since Tuesday, I'd had 2 egg rolls, 2 donuts (I blame work...they give 'em away on Fridays), 3 bananas, 1 thick slice of turkey ham/horsey sauce and several handfuls of cashew nuts. That's all (that I can remember).

Actually, the most effective weight loss change has simply been to lay off the carbonated drinks (diet or otherwise) and stick to water. Also cut out sodium - easier said than done since everything has too much sodium to begin with.

Now to keep a good thing going without having to starve, that is the trick ;)

The trick isn't starving to death, it's what you eat and what you do. You probably ate too little if that honestly is what you ate in the last week. If you cut your intake too much, your body goes into starvation mode, and anything more then an absolute fast isn't going to cut it. I also work nights, so it's my Tuesday already (shift workers like Tom will know what I am talking about here:rolleyes:)

You need to determine your BMR (basal metabolic rate, or the number of calories you burn in 24 hours), there are general rule calculators, although a doctor can also help you determine this. Now add on the number of calories burned through activities like riding, For a normal weight loss of 2lbs per week, you need to make sure intake is about 7000 calories below this. You also need to make sure your eating stuff that is good for you. At 2000 calories per day, there is actually quite a bit of food, providing your eating the right foods.

Last Friday gets a free pass for the doughnuts since it was National Doughnut Day.

Good Stuff! Don't think about starving yourself b/c its a bit of a setup to fail. To eat 2500 calories of good balanced diet is a bit of a challenge - because it is a lot of food. Log your food it helped me a lot.

"...and several handfuls of cashew nuts"

If U like cashews as much as I do, will have to stop eating them. Very high calories. Despite nuts being a great food, U really have to limit yourself to like 6 of them. I don't have that control so they are banned from house.

Please tell me that's not since LAST Tuesday. Even for a day that's a bad diet.

donalson 06-09-09 08:38 AM

i'll also post in... note that there are soem big fat guy pics down at the bottom of this post... shirtless... it's not pretty but they are of me and are there to make a point... :)

congratz on your commitment to dropping some weight and reaching a goal... however be very careful... you didn't say in your post if thats all you where eating or what... but for your body to properly drop FAT you have to eat a lot of food... but it has to be the right food.

I followed a very specific diet late last year and managed to drop down 30lbs in under 2 months... and dropped a TON of a fat (while gaining muscle mass)

this coveres my diet fairly well... I was keeping very close track of what I was eating and keeping my macro nutrients in very specific percentages to each other... but I was still eating over 3000 calories a day (which is a TON when it's healthy food)
http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/s...ead.php?t=1222

I was also doing a very specific work out routine... basically bodyforlife.com's work out... with longer rides on occasion instead of always doing the HIIT cardio.

and now for the pics... i'm overweight... a lot... they are a bit embarrassing to look at for me... but they make a point

and I want to post these just because it makes me realy see how much of a change i've done...

the 1st pic is me last june @ 304# the 2nd pic is me @ 294 last Oct.... the pics show 10# difference but a full 5% loss of body fat % (based on mayo tape measurement calculations)

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...062408side.jpghttp://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...4/DSC05388.jpg

I got down to 285... unfortunately I moved around a bunch starting in Nov (lost my job and living with various family :-/ and am now over 300# again... things are finaly getting back to normal and i'm in my own house so I can get back on my progress...

so again i'll say it... be very careful... an improper unsafe diet can be even worse then eating like crap...

Alathea 06-09-09 08:54 AM

Actually thats a great progress pic. Good on you! The good thing is that you know what you did last time to get there. Toss in riding and you should be good to go. (Fellow 285er)

Either low carb or smart vegetarianism should help you with your goal. Smart vegetarianism means eat the the natural foods that grow from the earth, not the processed junk on the shelves. There are fat vegetarians, there is no meat on a double cheese pizza or in potato chips right ;)

So stick with the fruits and veggies or go the high protein ultra low carb way, either should work.

Big Fat Paulie 06-15-09 06:22 AM

Also, remember you didn't eat one donut and gain 150 extra pounds over night, so you can't skip one donut and lose it overnight either. I have to keep reminding myself of that one everyday...it took taime to gain it and it will take time to lose it.
