Specialized Hardrock

Ok, I've narrowed down my choice of bikes to the Specialized Hardrock. I would like to know if I should get the Regular Hardrock and beef up the wheels, or get the Hardrock Sport and leave the wheels as is (double-walled 32h). I weigh about 330lbs. If I were to get the Regular what would be a good wheel set to swap them with?

Sun Rhynolite 36 spoke would be a good choice.

It'll be cheaper to just get the Sport to begin with.

But would the 32 spoke rims be strong enough to hold me up?

What kind of riding are you planning? Road or Cross Country trails, yes. Dirt Jumps and Skate Parks, no.

Road and Cross Country only. When I reach my target weight I would love to do some really technical stuff but thats a long way off.

Hardrock.

Nice, and I am not biased in the least..... much.

We just today got my partner a Specialized Hardrock. I don't know if it's a sport or not. I do know that it has 36 spoke wheels fore and aft. Glad to hear it's such a great bike. We got it for $50 on Craigslist. And it only needed a new tube on the back!!

FYI: The 2010 Hardrocks are cheaper than the 2009 models.

I just bought a 2010 Hardrock Sport for $440, compared to the MSRP of $500 for the 2009 model.

Hexenmeister, where are you located? The LBS here sells them for $480.

i just paid full boat on a 2010 hardrock disc. I wne to two different stores and noone woudl budge on price for an 09 or a 2010. I did have to have them order my size however as oppsoed to taking from their stock. Perhaps that was the reason.

I'm in Kansas City. I bought from Epic Bike and Sport.

I was really close to buying a 2009 model for $500, then the guy mentioned that some 2010s were starting to come in, so I just asked him what the differences were with the newer models. So he got on the computer and looked it up, and the only difference was the 2010 was $60 cheaper. :thumb:

After learning that he offered me the 2009 for that price as well, but I decided to go with the new model because it came in red.

I pick mine up tomorrow, I got a 2009 Hardrock Sport Disc in Speed Orange for $529.

I looked at the 2010's and I was not impressed with their look.

I've called all the LBS in my area and they all say the hardrocks are going at MSRP. I think im going to have to go into the big cities to get a better deal. Seems like Smaller Town LBS's can sell them at a high price because of no competition.

I love my Hardrock Pro. It has Deore rear and XT front deraillers, kevlar slicks, and a Surly Instigator rigid fork.
