"B" To The "I"
Got up early this morning and decided to ride one of my favorites, The Tunnel Hill Trail. Arrived at the Vienna trail head at 7am. It was a beautiful morning, about 67 degrees with blue sky. Someone had obviously ridden before me, because the usual spider webs that normally are everywhere this time of year were non existent. But there were thousands of big round webs with the sun shining through them. Beautiful.
Ok, so what does the title of this thread mean? So, I rode the 10 miles up to and through the tunnel. I have some pics, and will try to post later. Anywho.... I noticed when I arrived at the tunnel that I was about 7 minutes ahead of my normal timing. I must have flown. It did not feel like anything. Now I am kinda jacked about the ride back. Most of the 10 miles back is a slight decline, and maintaining 18-20 mph is very doable. So, i strike off to pop my usual time and get a good one in my books.
A couple miles below the tunnel I was crossing the 600 ft Breeden Trestle, when I saw something about an inch before it hit me in the eye. It was a yellow jacket bee. The absolute second it hit the pain exploded in my face. I swatted it out, but it had already done its business. HOLY CRAP!!!! Talk about pain
It stung me just at the edge of my lower eye lid. I stopped and was freaking out. The first thing I did was pour water all over my face and flushed out the eye. Then it hit me that I was alone and 7 miles from the truck At first I thought "Ride Like Hell" then I realized that this was probably not the best plan to get my heart pumping. So I slowed it down and just rode and tried to stay calm, while my eye started swelling shut. When I got to the truck I took a couple of Benadryl and then drove to a gas station and got an ice cold bottle of water and layed it on the eye for a few minutes and then drove the half hour home. The Benedryl really helped and all is pretty good this evening. It is sore, but OK.
So, I guess this could of gone in the "What have your inhaled while riding" thread, but I would not have been able to use my cool thread title. So in closing........BEES SUCK WHEN THEY STING YOU IN THE EYE!

Yikes! You must be (no pun) allergic; glad I'm not, although I have 2 nephews that are. They swell up and have breathing problems when stung.
I got hit a few years back by a wasp -- flying 90deg to my direction of travel, flew right into a helmet vent, and hit the back of my head. Off came the helmet, swatting away, killed the sucker...but I still had 7 miles to roll, and my head was throbbing like I'd been broomsticked.
For me, though, getting my heart rate up was the best thing, cuz by the time I got home, the pain, the knot, and the venom, were gone.
