I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on things to do or places to see (and avoid) while in Atlanta? Work is sending me there for a training next week and I will be in your fine city from Sunday through Thursday. I'll be going alone , so any suggestions on what to do in the evenings is much appreciated.
The training is taking place near the "Perimeter Mall".
Thanks
Bau

things you could do hmm.
Well there is the aquarium if you like that kind of thing.
Atlanta high musuem of art.
lot's of great shopping and restaurants
there are so many other things
thing to avoid imho
coco cola museum(it is in a new building and i haven't gone yet, but the first one was boring)
You could rent a bike and go on the silver comet trail. over 100 miles of paved bike bath from atlanta to anniston. look up silver comet depot to rent the bike, and search for silver comet trail for details.

well dang it.. the Bee lives right there! I will be in Chicago at that time... want to come visit my cats??
OK Here's my suggestions:
(1) BIKING: Go ride on the Silver Comet... Can you leave a little early?? It looks like it is not open late - so I am not sure this option will work. But there's a great trail that goes all the way to Alabama.
https://silvercometdepot.com/
Traffic is yucky - so it would be great if you could leave during the day....
(2) Good running/walking path - Chattahoochee River, Powers Ferry/Cochran Shoals | 3 to 8 miles | From I-285 exit at Powers Ferry/Northside Dr., exit 22. From the east, turn right at the end of the ramp. Go straight at the next light. From the west, turn left at the 2nd light. Go straight through the next two lights. From both directions, the park is on the right, immediately after the bridge. There is a $3 parking fee.
Map: https://www.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF...3842661e421b9c
(3) Right at the Perimeter mall- Well it's a good mall. No biggie though. I mean you can shop anywhere... but Goldfish is a cute restaurant...and there's lots of food options around.
Also - my bike group is an hour away - but I think they are awesome and they have rides on Tuesday. Ther's also some great Mon evening rides in other spots. let me know if that is an option at all and I can give you more info. Ther's a local Monday night ride out of the Perimeter - I hear it's tough....lemme know if ya wanna hear more.
4) Go see the Braves play.....
5) Go to Virgina Highlands for dinner - or Buckhead/Midtown....Money no object? My favorite place is Vini Vidi Vici (But expensive)

OK _ I called a Bike shop - They could rent you a bike for $35/day. They need to know how tall you are. The shop has a ride on Tuesday nights which I could never do cause it's 18-19MPH avg and a drop ride... but you could always get the bike and put it on your car somehow and ride at the Silver Comet or the Monday night ride at the Concourse.

Thats awesome !!!!! Thank you for sharing that information on the silver comet trail as well as the information on the bike shop! I checked out their hours and pricing and they are a bit pricy at $80 bucks a day. Training is out at 4 and the depot closes at 6:30. I will defiantly consider this, more so if someone would like to join me for a ride. Pace is irrelevant as I can hammer or cruise.

WOW! Thanks for all the leg work Miss B! I really appreciate it!
I've never been to Atlanta before so honestly I have no idea where this bike shop is in relation to a trail head on the silver comet, is it conveniently located or is it aways off? Still, for a savings of $45 it is likely worth the drive. I don't know if I could get out early or not, it would really depend on what I had for lunch that particular day . Oh, I'm 5'8'' and ride a 56cm road bike, 54cm CX, and 18'' in mountain bike.
Also if your kitties need company I would be happy to give em a good petting before loading them up on cat-nip and playing chase with a laser pointer.

OK the bike shop is a ways away...
So if you ride at the comet for say 3 hours - then just get one of their bikes (right on the path - an hour drive from the Perimeter at 4PM...)
I would advise - calling Cycleworks and seeing if they have a bike for you - asking if you can come by and get it Monday at 4...or better would be at lunch..less traffic... it would be a 20 minute ride I think to get the bike from perimeter.....Then you have the bike and can decide to join the Concourse ride or head to the comet (A 40 minute to 60 minute ride by car). So that way you can ride on the path for a few hours. Or any of the other rides lsited on the www.blikesbl.org ride calendar.
Ther's also great rides on Tuesday/Thursday at Atlanta Cycling (Closer than the comet but still a 30-40 minute trek in trafffic...https://atlantacycling.com/ https://atlantacycling.com/page.cfm?pageID=37

I must admit that I am unsure how that would be screwing with your cats ...unless they don't react very well to nip. I certainly wouldn't wish any ill tidings to your critters. Of the two cats that I have interacted with on a regular basis the nip makes one really playful and the other one gets rather mellow. It's interesting in that the one who becomes playful is normally lethargic while the one who mellows out still thinks it's a kitten (8yrs old). Or could it be that the green dot is not a tangible thing for them to play with like a toy mouse would be? I certainly wouldn't send them crashing into a wall, or shine it into an eye as that would be outright cruel. I'll just leave the pointer and nip at home (I wouldn't want to explain that to the TSA anyways ).
Imaginary meeting with the cats aside I do appreciate your suggestions.
Thanks Bee and Shinnster, you two ROCK!!

MissB, cats love to chase a laser pointer. It's great fun for them.
