Walking from office to garage... where it is 110 degrees. :=) About 2 miles and then hammer it. With limited time to ride I don't get to do long warm ups. Would be nice but time is limited.

Takes me about 7-10 minutes of easy spinning to warm-up.

usually 6-10 miles until i am fully warmed up. usually time wise it is about a half hour whether its the road or off road ~ 2-3 miles ish. now yesterday where i was pretty beat up from my sunday century ride i finally warmed up about 23 miles in of a 35 mile ride it was brutal. the first thing i said to my buddie was " meet my new torture devise called a bicycle"

I usualy have about 3 miles in before meeting up with my riding partner, usually takes another mile or so to really get loosened up and going smooth. Riding partner is still suffering with comfort of his seat so is only doing about 4 miles total, and I've just got going. I've started doing about 10-15 miles before I meet up with him just to actually make it worth getting my heart rate up, ride with him, then do the last 3 miles home.

It generally takes 10 to 15 min for me to get my "legs". A light spin, a couple of sprints while dealing with traffic in town then an easy spin thru the local park on my way to the kick off point for most of my loops gets me ready.

I would be in the "depends on time of day" crowd. Morning, which is when I usually ride since I work second shift (3pm-11:30pm), I feel worn out until I hit the 5 mile mark, then I feel I could go 20 miles, but remember I need to go to work. And, since I make precision optics, I gotta be alert and not too phsyically drained. Weekends, I do most of my riding later on, after lunch or a good breakfast. I can do 20+ miles then and am ready to go right from throwing my leg over the bike.

Speaking of work...anyone notice they feel more lively and accomplish more at work after riding? If i keep my pre-work ride to 5-10 miles I feel energized.

I get warmed up ok, but after about 9 miles is when my second wind comes in and I feel like I can ride forever. For the next 9 miles.

Great question...interesting to see all the replies.

1) If have to go via the brutal hill climb around the corner then I'm warmed up by the time I get over it.

2) otherwise about 4 or 5 miles, sometimes more, sometimes less, but during that period there's often that thought-question: "Do I really do this painful sport to feel good? Then I guess I wait a few miles for the desired answer.

It takes me about 4 miles to get warmed up and dialed in and get a biking attitude going on.

Here in Hattiesburg, Ms. we have a rails to trails program that has turned an old rail road into a 40.5 mile long bkie trail. From the main gate at USM to the first rest station which is 4.3 miles at Jackson RD Station, I feel like utter crap. Like my legs get really tired, my breathing is labored, its just a really hard ride for me. Now once I get to the station, sit down, drink a little water, and relax for a few minutes i'm totally ready to go. anybody else have something similar to this?
