crazylady on the DL for 4-6 months
For those of you that don't know, crazylady is my wife, and she just had her shoulder surgery and it turned out to be a bit more involved than was initially thought. She had a torn rotator cuff, as well as a Labral tear, and bone spurs from arthritis. It seems she dislocated the shoulder in the crash and it just popped itself back in. So.........she's on the couch, stoned out of her gourd on pain meds, in a sling and wearing an chill/compression thingy. They repaired the RC, the Labrum, and resurfaced the shoulder socket.
On the flip side, if she hadn't injured herself in the crash, the arthritis wouldn't have been caught early enough to avoid a shoulder replacement. There's a silver lining of sorts, we guess.

So, she won't be able to ride for 4-6 months? That will be frustrating for her, I'll bet. Make SURE that she does her rehab as ordered and if no rehab was ordered by the doctor, ask for it. It's not that hard to end up with what they call a "frozen shoulder". And once you have it it's difficult and painful to get over. Not trying to preach, just wanting to help!
And, above all tell her to take it easy and get well soon. Hope the pain is not too bad.

Her rehab starts in 3 weeks. The Dr is a very, very, very good orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports injuries. She'll be able to start very limited riding sooner, but not until she can raise her hand to the handlebars. Fortunately, her bike is a recumbent trike.

as you may or not know I just had a labral tear repaired...
have her keep it still as ever for the next 6 weeks...
man I feel for her...
me i cannot have any more surgeries (scar tissue issues) so I can't out and go downhill MTBing and tear it all up again...) <<< that prospect sucks.
good luck and prayers to her!

Yikes, it sounds way too similar to what I did when I had mine, right down to discovering the arthritis and the Labral tear after getting in there.
I second, and woefully endorse, the rehab. It sucks like no other as far as rehab goes, but not doing it has way too many bad implications.
Remember the mantra, "It's easier to stay out of pain than it is to get out of pain". Don't let her try and be a hero the first couple of weeks and swear off the pain meds. Both of your lives will be hell if she does, lol.

My prayers go out to her also Tom. I can feel her pain I've been off a bike for 4 months and had a Laminectomy (back surgery) today. Hope all goes well for her and my best wishes to her for a speedy recovery.
