check out www.identi-tape.com for Scotchlite 500/600 series tapes which are brighter reflectivity. I use the black one on my bike and it lights up like the sun, even in side-glancing headlights.

All the silver reflection on the bike is black Scotchlite tape, pic shot in full indoor lighting and it's still that bright a reflection.

I love black reflective tape! I don't have any on this bike, but my last fancy bike had tons. I got mine on eBay for like $15 for a bunch of it in big sheets, but I don't know how "good" it was. Pretty bright, but not like actual white tape.

Black is very dark compared to lighter colors. I was really disappointed with how reflective the name brand black tape I got was. It looks great in photos, and up close, but on the road it's nothing compared to white, yellow, or even gold and orange. It's better then nothing though, but it's not very eye catching if there's background light from anything.

I didn't want to defile my bike too permanently, so I put the black on things like the cranks and fenders, and then I added that holographic diamond stuff to the accessories and things like that. I think it was a good compromise.

That's my old bike :) You can see the pump is much brighter than the cranks (holographic crazy stuff vs. black tape).
