Question on Eddy Merckx EMX-5

What does everyone think about the Eddy Merckx EMX-5 Dura Ace bike? It's beautiful, but is it a good bike? Iv'e always been a Merckx fan, but how does it compare to Cervelo, Specialized, Etc...

I love my Merckx, but I imagine it's nothing like the EMX-5, since it's 20 years old & steel.

I'm sure it's a fine bike, but I don't like the ugly, wavy fork and seatstays they're using. Similar to Pinarello's new CF bikes. Ick.

If I'm not mistaken, Pinarello is now manufacturing the Eddy Merckx frames. I'd have to do some Google research to find out exactly what was involved in the transaction.

Then it makes perfect sense why I think they're both ugly.

Love my 3 Merckx's.. Just remember that Merckx's frames from old to new are a little longer in the top tube length than many other frames on the market.. This makes them a little more relaxed in the head and seat tube angles.. This is great if you are looking for a bike you can ride all day.. If you are looking for a more aggressive frame that is fast for criterium style racing, these are not well suited for that type of riding..

I am a big Merckx fan. If I were to ever try a carbon frame, the emx-5 would be it And if you compare it to other CF, you'll see that it is also reasonably priced @ $2600.

Merckx is (was) like Lemond in that he licenses his particualar "geometery" to a manufacurer for them to put his name on and sell a bunch of bikes. Merckx bikes have always been high quality and his relationship with Pinerello will continue that lineage.

Btw, I think Pinerello's are cool looking! Just shows that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I'm sorry, I was thinking of the emx3 that is $2600. The emx5 is $3750.

My only gripe with the modern Pinny is the rolling billboard approach to decals. Of course, that affliction is somewhat widespread amongst some of the higher end/boutique Marques.

If one showed up at my door I think I could overcome this minor aversion

Just finished review of the EMX 5 on my blog, I love the bike. It's been on of the best I tested in 2010
