25 down, 20-ish to go
230 pounds this week.
I haven't been trying to lose any weight recently (like for the last year or so) because my health has been fine and my riding has been increasing quite well. We switched where we're doing our grocery shopping, and all of a sudden I've started dropping weight like crazy, even though I'm constantly shovelling down food.
The difference? Unprocessed foods, and no junk foods. When we'd go to QFC or Safeway, invariably a couple bags of chips or some kind of snack stuff would end up in the cart. Heck, even at the local co-op they've got a couple aisles of snacks.
There is no junk food aisle at the farm stand, and I don't like the junk food at the Korean grocery. I haven't changed how much I eat. I've only changed what I'm eating.

Yea, we have a new store called Sprouts that opened here a while ago. I'm finding mysef drawn to it more and more.
Farmer's stands rock too.

I have to make sure that I don't fall back to poor habits when the farm stands start closing up shop for the winter. We're getting to the end of season up here.

Yea, we have a bit longer season, but the the change in weather is unavoidable. It's only about 3.5 miles down to my guy and his inventory is dwindling in quantity and selection already.
I feel the need for some fresh Honey Dew melon. Gonna have to grab one on todays run.

Besides, "little" ain't my thing.
I guess Safeway isn't too keen a place around you? The ones we have up here are fairly nice, and we never noticed any slow-down issues. I don't think the two stores closest to us even have a self-check register. Then again, we haven't been there in a few months. The chain store we've been going to is H-Mart, which is a huge Korean grocery. Of course, with it being a chain store there's the usual processed packaged fare available; but we stick mostly to the produce section and go there because the variety of stuff is even better than the other asian grocers which are closer to us.
The Girl has been joking recently that going to the farm stands and H-Mart means that she can afford to feed me. Aside from eating healthier, apparently our grocery bills have dropped significantly. Despite what Whole Foods would have you believe, fresh produce doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. I guess sending out all those weekly sales circulars, etc. means that the same grapes I paid less than $2/lb for end up costing close to $5/lb.

Yup, my parents have beenshopping at similar stores since Dad can't eat the junk anymore. Mom says it's cheaper buying good veges and other stuff.
Geeze you are lucky. Most big chain markets here have lots of self checkoput stands and are always busy! I won't go into it caue 90% of Californian's are totally "inconsiderate jerk of faces". And that's being kind!...Don't believe me, spend an hour on our fwys!

Eating a massive salad every say has been fueling my recent weight loss. That, and fairly elaborate meals from home made from non-processed foods.
I got curious and worked out the caloric density of salad. If you don't overdo the dressing, it's astonishingly low, so you can just kinda munch and munch and munch.
I'm thinking I'm past the halfway mark in terms of weight loss. It's a good feeling.

So, I've been sorta stuck at 230 for a couple weeks. Hopefully that will change this week. I started Sunday with a 110 miler, then yesterday I was riding home and some other, much better climber of a commuter caught me on his Trek full carbon machine just before Novelty Hill. I said I was going to take it easy up the hill, but he slowed just enough to make me really work to keep up, but not enough to totally drop me. It was by far the fastest I've ever gone up that climb. A couple more days like that, then another century on Saturday... I should be breaking into the 220s by the end of the week.

Kamala, you up for a century on Saturday with us? We're not exactly gonna burn through it at sub-6 pace or anything. Last weekend we were 7h 55m in the saddle for 110 miles, and just over 10h total with our stop at the Snohomish Bakery for breakfast, Haggen grocery in Arlington for a fuel up, a stop at some park to eat some more, a stop in Granite Falls to refill our bottles, etc.
We were certainly not out for any PRs that day. Plus, my ride partner was only 3 days recovered from donating blood, so he was still running a pint low and his endurance was shot after 85 miles. And I'll be rolling on about 17 - 20 hours sleep for the week by then, so I'll be a fun bundle of incoherence trying to pilot a bike by Saturday.
We're probably looking at a 9h total day this weekend with as little climbing as possible, if you're interested.
