So now I'm a little spooked...

I haven't really ran in about 9 years...

since I cannot cycle it was suggested to me to go run...

let me also say that at the dawn of my cycling career yes all 1.75 months of it so far, I tried to run...

not even a half a mile, 300lbs no air and my diaphram was up up uppity about moving...

2 months later...

I just ran 3.5 or so odd miles... barely any recovery breathing and it was super duper easy...

holy cow... got some blood pumping got some sweat running... and my recovery is the best I have ever seen...

I would have much rather done 30 40 50 miles on the roadie but... hey this actually worked...

barring super bad news from Dr. on Wed. I may just have to plan a little TRI action for next summer!!!

Just curious... what sort of trouble are you having that won't allow you to cycle, but allows you to run? Is it a shoulder or collar bone issue.

Oh, congrats on the good run.

Running will work if you stick with it. I was a pretty serious runner (40-60 miles most weeks, occasionally as many as 75) for about 20 years, until my knees gave up and I switched to cycling. When I was running, I liked to compete in the heavyweight class (sort of hid the fact that I'm naturally slow), and I often had to work to keep my weight over 200 pounds (I'm 6'4").
When I started cycling, my weight began creeping up, and eventually I got to 270. I'm back down around 240 now, but I've been primarily a cyclist since 1989, and even when I'm riding 150-175 miles a week, I have to think constantly about diet or the scale heads up again.

Nothing like a good run. I love to bike but it's a machine. A ways to a means to cheat. Starts getting tough, shift into another gear.

With running it's you and yourself. When it starts getting tough you have to dig for it.

Anyway in some respects you could apply that to riding or competitive riding. Just for me I love the challenge of me by myself putting miles behind me.

Good on you.

Funny thing about running though. That 3.5 effortless run tomorrow or the next day will seem like a fluke. Sometimes I'll put in 6 miles and think "Wow that was too easy" only to beg God for strength a mile into a run the next day.

as many of you know my post don't always have a clear point

the point of this was that cycling just a couple of months has gotten me in the best shape of my life...

medically I cannot play now (winter coming anyhow) and that is a bummer man...

I just cannot believe how easy the run was and I owe it all to cycling...

I'm doing the diet thing and will hopefully hit the ground at or near 200 in the spring medically cleared to take some names...

look out half Tri... I'm coming for you...

PS I'm a Pisces so the swim part is easy

I'm taking heart from this thread. This coming Sunday I might be getting back into running a little more drastically than I'd planned, as my company's team leader for the Corporate Challenge 10k run hasn't got enough females on the team and has gotten desparate enough to ask me.
I've told him I'll do it if absolutely no-one else shows an interest.
Help....

10k, ask him if you can ride it instead. That running stuff is not cool at all.

Well, I got through it by walking 5 minutes, lightly jogging about a minute, finished in about 96 minutes. There were lots of other people in the "has a pulse, two functioning legs, and picture i.d." category, so I even had company for the cold rainy ordeal. With water, massage, and lots of Robax Platinum, I should be walking normally by Wednesday.

I wish...

it is just slightly more complicated than simply a medical issue...

I wish I could elaborate...
