You know you're riding in Western KS when..

Hello fellow cyldes. I have been lurking around for several weeks, really haven't had much to add. But thought I would share a humorous story from yesterdays ride. I ride mostly country roads/trails and yesterday I was flying (for me) down a rutted road/trail about 20-25 mph. I was concentrating on my line so I didn't end up doing an endo, enjoying the adrenaline dump. When out of nowhere a rooster pheasent flushes to my right and almost hits me in the face. Held my line, didn't wreck, no brown stain and one heck of rush. I love riding country roads.

Wait til ypou flush a big ol' Mule Deer buck and he runs along side of you for a ways. THAT'S a rush. :

A coyote and I suprised each other a couple of months ago. We rode/ran next to each other for about 25 yards before we parted ways.

Sounds like I might have some more adventures ahead. Got to love it.

How far west? I have a friend in Horace - near Tribune..... see him a couple tiems a year --- don't get much farther west than that/

Not as far west as Tribune. I am about 80 miles from the boarder.

You know your in Kansas when the weatherman says "There will be a slight breeze today out of the West, at 35 to 45 mph ..." (heard on radio station, Wichita, KS, 1993)

That is the same for southwest Iowa.

Been there done that, it was great to ride along side a deer like that.

This is very true. We don't have the challenge of large hills or mountians, but the wind can be a monster.

Sounds familiar-Im in Manhattan, KS here...but back home in SW Colorado I have had a few pheasant suprises riding our country roads!

Was MTBing at the cottage last year and spoked a bear out of a berry patch, that was interesting.

Nothing more exotic than the old Br'er Rabbit on my rides so far... I'll keep you posted. :D

Sweet.

I flushed a turkey on the Longleaf Trace in Mississippi once. Dang big bird in my book.

And had an alligator debate right-of-way with me. He had me both on weight & tooth count, so I let him have the trail.
