Out of the box thinking

I told myself I really need to get the contents out of this bike box that Fed Ex delivered.

It's real purdy!

Build chronicles to follow.:D

What a way to start the come back.

I have reason to believe the engine has some manufacturing defects:roflmao2:

What are you doing Friday morning? Wanna help with the finishing touches?

txvintage 11-09-09 09:46 AM

Nice bike. I love the geometry and look of bikes from that era. The stems are especially elegant. You putting brifters, or down-tube shifters on that thing?

Shimano 600 cranks, FD, RD, brakes, and RSX 8 speed brifters.

The big decision is to go with white or black saddle, cables, and tape. I have a black Cinelli stem and set of bars if I do that.

Is that a mastiff watching? Great dogs. There's one lying at my feet as I type this.

Yep, Baby, English Mastiff extrodinaire.

Sweetness! N+1 is always a good thing.

I bet nobody puts Baby in a corner...

Pinyon 11-09-09 12:40 PM

I'd be very tempted to go with white tape with that paint job, but I also know that lighter colors tend to get that "dirty-greasy hands" look after a short while. You have to try the white at least once, if for no other reason than to see what it looks like. Maybe a nice chrome-plated Italian racing fork from the period...

Hehehe. Where does Baby sleep? Anywhere she wants to.:roflmao2: That's ususally as close to either my wife or me as she can get. A regular cover hog, she is.

If you look in the first two pics ther happens to be one of said forks leaning against the back tire of another bike. Coincindence?

I'm probably gonna go with white for the initial build, but the white saddle I have is kind of reserved for the multi colored Italian frame that is behind the white frame in the bottom right hand side of the first two pics. I can always get another white saddle, but at some point the madness must be tamed, lol.

With your color scheme, I would be inclined toward white bar tape and saddle.

Friday morning could work out if the lungs will co-operate. (relapse from doing too much too soon)

Dude, you are missing some great non monsoon weather, but take it easy.

I should be down to just cables, bar wrap, and chain at the most by then.

I need to return the loaner crutches as well. They served me well, but we are having relationship problems at this point in our life:p

BigPolishJimmy 11-09-09 08:30 PM

Nice bike!

now i gotta wipe the droll off the keyboard.

flip18436572 11-09-09 08:33 PM

I would like white, but I know that doesn't look good for long.

bigtempo 11-09-09 08:40 PM

Nice.

Is that Rossin frame for sale? Looks like a 58cm :)

Thanks BP! It was a deal too good to pass up. My part of the trade was stuff on hand and postage/shipping for my stuff, which was very reasonable. This leaves me with $19 out of pocket for the postage on the stuff I traded, which I had decided I wasn't going to use even though it was nice stuff.

I will get much more use out of this than the stuff I had sitting around here waiting to get used, lol.

Technically, it's a 60cm according to the serial number, but it measures a 59.

Anything can be for sale, for the right price, lol.

The bike and the doggie look great, TX! Glad to hear you are getting rid of the crutches. I'd go with red handlebar tape but I really like red.

I thought about red, but decided it would be overkill. I'm now torn between ultra sleek and suave red and white or the more sinister red and black, lol.

Black rhymes with grease.

I took some fenders out of a box yesterday for my commuter, and hope to be taking my Rivendell tourer out of the box in a couple of weeks. I took a lot of fenders off bikes when I was a kid, but who would have ever thought about adding them just for comfort.
