There are plenty of beefy rims available.. The top 3 in 36 hole would be: Velocity Deep V, The Chukker and B43 rims... If the chukker or B43 are not beefy enough, not sure where else you can go..

The B43 is Triple Walled - 43mm Deep, the come in 24,28,32,36 or 48 hole options.. Lots to choose from..

Thanks, socalrider! You've been a veritable cornucopia of helpful information and links for me!!!

I just put together a custom rear wheel order with Deep Vs to get an idea of cost and they quoted me $126.

Rims: VELOCITY DEEP V ROAD 700c SILVER RIM MSW
Hubs: Shimano SHIMANO LX SILVER REAR HUB
Spokes: DT Swiss DT SWISS CHAMPION 14 GUAGE SILVER SPOKES
Nipples: Silver Brass Silver

Assuming the rims and hubs are 36h (I'd have to try to specify that in comments, but I know both the wheel and the Shimano LX hub are available in 36h varieties), then even w/ their $19 shipping charges - that's less than $150 for a rear wheel w/ Deep Vs. They also ask rider weight in the order process which makes me think they take that into account when tensioning the wheels, which sounds like a good thing to me.

Have you or do you know of anyone that's purchased wheels from them? How's the quality/durability? Service?

LOOKS like a good choice EKW.... should hold up well. One 'assumes' a 36 hole.. I would verifty that. If I come across a stainless rim link I'll post it.. couldnt find one either. Those velocity rims look like the deal though.

BEST of LUCK!

Velocity deep V's aren't wide enough for big tires.

How wide can you go with the Deep Vs? Dyads?

I have a 40mm tire on the rear right now, but will probably be going with a 35 soon, as the tire is pretty worn out and some new fenders are going to require a slightly narrower tire.

I have gone as wide as 700x32 with deep v's using ritchey cross tires... If you need to use 35 or 40mm, definitely go with the Dyad or the Chukker rim..
