Your Very Mostest Terribelist Riding Conditions?

With winter coming on, I know we in Cali are still pretty lucky weatherwise. This is about as bad as it gets in my neck of the woods. I do live near the mountains so I could ride up and try riding on the icy roads but why! :twitchy:

Got any treacherous riding pics? This is about the best I could find!:innocent:

^ yea, that is about as bad.

I rode in the snow and ice in April or May one year growing up in MD, but that doesn't really count since it was in the 70s or 80s at the time and everything was still on the ground.

Actually wasn't all that bad, just a bit inconvenient when ice/snow built up on the cassette and turned my MTB into a 3 speed (front shifting only).

29" of snow just before Christmas and then 3 major storms and a few minor ones after that. Had snow and ice on the roads for a minimum of 60 days. Yes, I rode to work on the ice (not during the storm, however;))

I have ridden home in a freezing drizzle too. No pictures but I crackled when I got off the bike:eek:

Mr. Beanz 12-18-09 04:35 PM

Ha, that's cool Cycco! I mean COLD!:D

DieselDan 12-18-09 07:07 PM

I'm really glad we rarely see any snow accumulation at all. Come 12/25, we have gone 20 years without snow here. Getting stuck riding over a causeway or bridge in a thunderstorm is bad enough.

Last year's snow storm.

I like the victory pose CliftonGK1 while the cars in the background remain covered and parked. No pics but about a week or two again I came in with clear skies and relatively mild weather. I left with two inches of snow and wind gusts of about 30 and temps hovering around 20. I don't know why some of my coworkers are surprised that "you rode in that?".

If it snows here this winter I'll take a pic for you!

This is my back yard. Not really deep snow like others get but still white and cold! :)

Does this count? This was my second 45 mile day with a fractured rib. On the Western Maryland Rail Trail, June 2008. I'm following Barndoor, all 5 foot 19 inches of him.

There aren't any. I rode up the cleared sidewalk in front of the cars once I got to my parking lot. Then I walked out into the snow and had a neighbour snap that pic.
The other 2 shots are the stuff I actually rode through. That second pic is Novelty Hill Rd. It's like that for 2.25 miles, and the road was closed to anyone who didn't live on the ridge.
Here's why:

Before it was scraped and sanded, it was snow over frozen rain and the same thing happens every year. Drivers going too fast end up turning the street into a bumper-car rink.

I figured that! Doesn't take away form the glory of getting out there and riding, sometimes you just gotta pose for the camera!:p

Same tour, just before Neil Fein and I head out on the C & O Canal Towpath, June 2008. I'd crashed two miles north of Cumberland. MD, the previous day. Note the road rash bandage on my leg and the asphalt mark on my jersey. We didn't know for another three days that I had a fractured rib and shouldn't have been moving, let alone riding 45 miles and camping. Oh, and yes, it DID hurt like heck. :-)

My favorite riding photo. Just outside of Fort Washington, PA, December 23, 2007. I'd hit a pothole and flopped on the curb a half-mile before. I got back on the bike and rode on.

Dude, you're right, you look line an "S"!.....Pfft, a bad a** long leather trench coat and a bad a** hat, Doc Holiday style, a little sweet talk and they're hooked before they notice your "S". By that time, they're in love with the H-Man!:thumb:

All kinds of stuff wrong with me but when I met Gina, I directed her focus on my good points rather than the bad. She didn't noitce my faults, she was too busy mesmerized by my big nose!:D
