Clipless pedal help.
My Crank Brothers Quattro pedals have gone the way of the dodo. So finding the Three bolt version of the cleat is almost impossible. I have one set coming in June but I can't count on that. So I've been doing a bit of research and have come down to three choices. Look Keo plus. Time RXS or the Speedplay cro mo's. I'm Partial to the Speedplays due to the doubles sided entry, but it looks like a small platform.
What do you guys ride. I may just put all three names in a hat and choose that way. Any recommendations gang? Thanks Will |
Speedplay...period end of story.

Honestly, I have Shimano SPD pedals on all of my road and mountain bikes. With a good shoe, the size of the cleat/pedal doesn't seem to matter...

I had SPD's for my first set of clipless pedals and they didn't allow enough float for my taste. Thats when I wen't with the Crank Brothers candy and than the quattros (essentially the same pedal the quattro having a more road specific profile.) I think i'm going with speedplay x2s. I try to watch my pedal stroke, but I need to ba able to float when It gets uncomfortable.

The most popular ones with road riders around here are Keos, double-sided SPD, and Speedplays.
It seems like the people that like keos tend to only ride that bike on group rides, and out of town on training rides. Not a great pedal for lots of traffic signals, or carrying groceries on the way home from work. Lots of people like me prefer double-sided SPD pedals. They are a little heavier than keos or speedplays, but not enough to matter to me. The double-sided entry makes for easy entry at traffic lights, and less worry when you have to carry something on the seat-post-rack. I also like that the SPD cleats on my light/race mtb shoes fit the pedals on the spin bikes at my gym, as well as the SPD pedals on my mountain bike. If you want to go lighter, and want double-sided entry, then speedplay is the way to go. I've never met anybody locally that goes back after riding on their speedplays. The bigger cleat on your shoe makes for a bigger platform than you get with SPD pedals too. |

I had the M520s spds tend to lock me up. I think i'm going with the speedplay x2. Nice float with 2x sided entry.

Speedplay. Very satisfied with mine.

Speedplay is the winner. I tried adjusting my spd's to no avail thats when I switched to Crank Bros. Love Crank Bros great pedals . It's too bad they discontinued the quattro line. The Zero line from speedplay offers 0 float while the X series allows 15 degrees. Just about the same as the quattros. I will give a report after purchase. I have another month left on my cleats

sorry mates, hated the speedplay and went back to Keo. Tried Crank Bros. Candy, they were okay.
