Well I have dropped my first 20lbs by biking, only another 30 to get to my first goal. I have been looking for some decent biking clothes but can only seem to find stuff designed for a person about 165lbs...not 260! Any ideas where to look? Would be a nice reward system as I drop another 10lbs.

I purchased my first pair from www.aerotechdesigns.com, xxxl at 312lbs they have a thin chamois pad but are very comfortable and durable. Also bought some @ 250ish lbs xxl adidas shorts and xxl pearl izumis bibs, which should fit you.

Just rode new assos tir f1 mille @234lbs for century rides and have to say most comfortable shorts I ever used, but they are expensive @ $120.

Performance Bike clothing has always fit me well. The Ultra Bib is 2XL and I am 6'2" and 270 lbs. Also their 2XL shirts fit me well too. If you can't get to their stores in VA then you can always find a 10% coupon online.

Your cat needs a diet. So does mine... She gets her smallest meal in the morning, so that she can't bother me over it while I'm at work, and the big one at night so she doesn't become the kitty alarm clock.

Anyway, I'm 6'1" and, well, I don't have a scale, so I don't know. Maybe 240 lbs, maybe a bit less. I find that XXL clothes from Arc'teryx pretty much always fit me, except for the damn Alpha SL rain pants. Their stuff is expensive, but the quality is second to none, it's comfortable, performs extremely well ... and makes a good reward. Specifically the wool base layers and goretex jackets and pants.

A lot of the time the site will have a size chart with measurements. I've found those to be pretty accurate.

Ha, I tried typing in CLYD last week when I finally decided to take the plunge and buy some bibs. You must of just reinstated that code because it did not work when I tried it. I'm not sore or anything, because you posted that code last year and it'd be ridiculous of me to expect it to work (but hey, you got to try). I did appreciate the coupon that came with the bibs in the mail. I'll be needing a jersey soon, so it's much appreciated. I tried on the bibs, never wore anything like that before... it feels like someone is grabbing my butt and I want to keep turning around and around to see who it is. Other than that, they seem fine and a good bargain too.

If you don't mind my asking, what Pear Izumi (PI) bibs did you purchase that came in XXL? I was hoping to get a pair of Elite bibs but, apparently, PI isn't making the Elites in XXL anymore.

The slightly more expensive one uses flatlock stitching that lays a little flatter against the skin (and comes in various colors). It also uses a slightly nicer stretchy mesh upper.

Both models use the same Coolmax seatpad and fabric.

Silly question . . . . but I have to ask anyway - in real world terms, how do the Falconi bibs compare to Pearl Izumi bibs? I have a pair of Pearl Izumi Elite shorts and I just love them. The chamois may be a tad too thick but the fit is wonderful. I want to take the plunge into the bib world and the Falconis really look attractive to me - bibs for not a lot of money. I'm just concerned about having a chamois that makes my rear end happy without being excessive. Know what I mean?

Boy, if I could get these questions answered I'd order a pair today.

Thanks for the head's up regarding the thread from last year. Now I'm stumped about sizing. Some people on that thread indicated that smaller sizes, than the size chart indicated, fit them well and that the sizes that the chart indicated were too big. Not really a big deal because of the 30-day return policy but, still, I'd like to get the right size on the first go around.

As for the sizes, I don't really know. As you see from my writings in that old thread I just got around to getting some bibs. They seem to fit me ok(following their size charts), but I've never worn bibs before, so I can't tell how they're going to be on a long ride. I'd have gotten them sooner, but I ended up getting a recumbent bike last year, so no bike-specific shorts needed for that. I'm getting them now because I've found that there are times I love my recumbent, and times I'd rather be riding my diamond frame bikes. If I were you, I'd PM Dan about it, I'm sure he'll get back to you.

Maybe someone who has ridden both the Falconi bibshorts and Pearl Izumi will chime in with a comparative analysis, but I can add that due to a variety of body shapes some people will prefer one brand over another based on the cut. I have had customers tell me our bibshorts are more comfortable than their Pearl Izumi bibs and have bought additional pairs and occasionally I get a pair returned because somebody thought they were uncomfortable.

Overall there is no magic involved in bibshorts design resulting in one brand that will be the best fitting design (even though the marketing departments of the cycling apparel companies will disagree). Designing the patterns for bibshorts is pretty low tech compared the design work needed for most everything else us cyclists buy for our sport. It boils down to personal preference. We have sold 1000s of bibs and know from the minute amount of returns that our design is dialed in pretty good for most people.

The primary reason our bibs cost less is that I buy them directly from the factory with no middlemen involved + I have extremely low overhead with no salesmen, sales managers, marketing department, ads in magazines or sponsored athletes etc etc.

cyber hawke - you mentioned weight but I didn't see mention of your height, so it's tough to know what kind of larger rider clothing you need; large waist only, big and tall, fit but really tall?

I'm 6'6" and 230 pounds, and these are the clothes and sizes I've been happy with:

- PI Ultrasensor bibs, XXL
- Performance Ultra II bibs, XL
- Craft Winter bib knickers, XL
- Assos FI.Mille S5 bibs, XLG (not TIR)
- PI Gavia Plus bib tights, XXL

- Louis Garneau wool jerseys, XL
- Woolistic brand wool jerseys, 3XL (European sizing. 2XL isn't long enough in the sleeves or torso)
- Garneau lycra jerseys, XL (club fit)
- Voler lycra jerseys, 2XL (race fit)
- Primal lycra jerseys, 2XL (club fit, and it's slightly big on me)

There may not be magic behind the general design, but the differences between companies will make for differences in fit and comfort depending on the rider, their bike, and their type of riding. I do quite a bit of long distance riding, and there are bibs I won't wear past 200k (Ultrasensors), and others I won't wear for anything under 300k (FI.Mille). There are others I just can't wear at all (Castelli) due to cut of the torso (apparently I have no "attack position"), or the feel of the padding (also Castelli).
One brand may not be the best fitting for everyone, but everyone will find the one brand which is best for them.
