Dear Clydesdales and Athenas,

I am a fellow Clydesdale and just bought a 2004 Specialized Sirrus - Black. I am currently 6'1 weighing in at 288 as of today. I am riding and changing my lifestyle to lose weight. I also got a gym membership and signed up for the cycling classes. Anyways, here are the specs on my bike:

Solid Black

Chromoly 20 inch frame/31inches stand over
Rims had upgraded last week to a new MAVIC CXP 22 rims (Front and Rear)
New tires front and rear (Continental Ultra sport)
ALL Shimano RSX components

I bought it used for $270.

Did I get a good deal? The gears are kind of in a weird location on the frame of the bike and not the handlebars. I have attached some pictures for you guys to see.

What do you think? I find myself leaning forward and will probably get a new handlebar, any recommendations? Do you think I can put a rack to hold things on the bike of the bike? It also has clips for shoes, any suggestions? What are the basics to someone new to cycling?

That is most definitely not a 2004 Sirrus. From what I see on specialized's website, everything 2002+ is A1 aluminum or some other aluminum, and they are a hybrid now, that is more...a road bike.

I would guess mid-90's is closer to the era that bike came from. I probably wouldnt have paid a cent over $200 personally, but drop handle bars are not my thing, either.

If it works for you and rides good, that is all that matters....but its NOT a 2004. That is for sure.

From what I see, the handlebars need to be leveled. The top of the bars should be level with the ground (for a good starting point.

Also, the seat looks extremely low.

I would go to the local Specialized dealer and see if they can fit you to the bike. May cost a few bucks, but would be worth it. They could also advise you on the types of shoes and cleats you need for those pedals. They look like Shimano SPDs, but the LBS would be able to order you the correct cleat.

The shifters on the frame look more like 1994 than 2004. The LBS/Specialized dealer would also be able to pinpoint the model and year.

Alright... thanks. Seems like I kind of got jipped. Oh well... hopefully it will last a couple of years at least.
