Ok you guys are killing me I want a Garmin!
Also where are all of those true Clyde rides like mine only 5 or 6 miles and slow as a turtle on a heavy full suspension bike in the summer heat? All of these 20, 30, 70 100 mile rides are making me feel like a major looser at least tell me you guys are riding rode bikes.

Now it takes hours and 200+ miles in a day to find my limit.
Keep you chin up and your pedals turning and you'll get there. What seems impossible today can be accomplished with regular training and a smart diet.
Remember - It's not the bike, it's the engine.

also remember that anyone over 199# can call himself a Clyde. it is easy to ride real fast when you are in that range.
Don't feel bad, last August it took me 2.5 hours to do a 11 mile loop with a couple hundred feet of climbing and I was destroyed for the next week.
Now it takes hours and 200+ miles in a day to find my limit.

Usual route - managed to get dropped on a downhill on a straight road. Stayed up too late and slept in and was doing a lot of running the day before and skipped breakfast.

I've made it a quest to compete for the group sprint on the Tu/Th hammerfest. I made it once before breaking my collar bone. This is as close as I've been since. Finished with a second group just few minutes back and won the sprint amongst the crushed souls. Big stupid fun.
Just a bit over 2 years ago I could barely ride this far without stopping. Cycling is good.

Usual Tuesday night ride. My avg speed was a little slower than I would have liked but it was a fun ride. Cadence was good though. Thinking of moving up to the B group next week.

25 miles in lovely Eugene. great bike paths along the river, though a little crowded on such a beautiful day. had to take my rental back and so wasn't able to do mile 2500 for the year, but I'll hit that when I get home tonight

52 mile tee loop
https://connect.garmin.com/activity/47811900
This is my training loop. if you soom in on the map you can see that you have two lines.
I start on Fm 1314 to Porter
then U turn
to 242
right turn then to 59,
U turm then( water stop)
then to Conroe on (242 water stop)
u turn then to FM 1314
FM 1314 to home
All flat
At 300 lbs with camelbak and bike It's five hours wide berm and other cyclests calling on your left I have gotten to the point it's not a challange but something to build speed and for a 100 miler i just do two laps.
My biggest issue is a sore butt.

Except up hills.
That's typically when many of us we feel our "Clydeiness" and brutal side of our relationship with gravity as we chase those flyweights up the steeps. That's when the word "easy" goes out the window.
But downhill — and even downward inclines of a few percent — offer us special speed and glide rewards, so at least there's that.
Wind resistance for us larger bodies is also a bigger deal. My 155 speedster friend thought I was great to draft behind, in the wind. :-o
I'm now down to 193#, but believe me I still feel every bit the Clyde in spirit, and in the effects of gravity -- even if I'm not the 219# I was three or so years ago.
Most of the folk I have ridden with are well under 175.
To think, years ago I used to beat myself over the head wondering why I had such a hard time keeping up with 125-160# riders on the MTB trail climbs. I just expected to, I guess, supposing, without much thinking, that it was all relative to conditioning.
Well it isn't -- even the larger guys on the tour, or what passes for large there -- the sprinters — are trailing the pack, in general, on the climbs.

I really enjoyed the day, and it was worth the drive over for this one. Nice rolling roads, with a few sustained uphill battles. I still climb like a rock, but I was off the bike for a couple weeks prior.

My longest ride on the new bike - and I think pretty much ever. Almost a half century.
