Climbing With the Skinny Guys

Holdy jeepers! New rider ABEC in black. He wanted to ride with us GMR for his first time. New rider but he was flying up alng with FryDaddy who showed up for a protion of the ride. FryDaddy is one of the Top Dawgs on bikejournal, maybe #2 or 3 right now. The guy climbs climbs and climbs and it was hard to match his cruising social speed, I was dying. ABEC isn't far behind and has the ability. Another 2 or 3 weeks and he'll be way to fast for me!

It was a very hot day but we did it, Hillbasher, ABEC and I. I outweigh the young skinny dude by 100 lbs and I was feeling it! I don't think he'll be invited on many more Mtn rides haha!

Looks like a great spot to ride. If I'm ever in your neighbourhood, I'll let you race somebody your own size.

Nice video!

I admire you for even attempting that "hill". Beautiful scenery, I sure miss California, up here in Seattle we are settling in for the 7 month winter

He looks like Andy Schleck. No wonder he can climb! Did he speak with an accent?

Challenge those Greyhounds to a round of Indian Leg Wrestling. I bet you win every time. Great video, good crew!

It is a nice hill. I try talking a few other riders up but for some reason "hill" is one four letter word most don't want to hear!

I sent out invites to a few buds on the ride Gina did the hill. Hmmm, "Mr. Beanz" and "GMR" in the title, the mesages seem to get lost in the mail!

Looks awesome - I want to go there. What does GMR stand for - where is it? Are the car drivers cool when you all take up the whole lane like that?

That could be to my advantage!......Actually FryDaddy is a super nice guy. Most of the guys I've met that are super riders are really nice guys. I guess they realize the ego isn't really needed when you're secure with your abilities. They are very encouraging! FryDaddy brought up the fact that I had a big advantage in the hills but that it's cool to see a big guy working on hills rather than go with the advantages. He did mention his disadvantages but also works on them saying that working on all aspect of riding makes a better rider.

So I wouldn't even leg wrestle this guy, he's cool and knows what's going on. Very encouraging, motivating and friendly guy. The BEST and strongest riders I've met, are!

GMR- Glendora Mount Road (Glendora California)

On this road, the 8 mile climb, one might see 2 or 3 cars. On the 21 mile climb, also 2 or 3. The road is all switchbacks and quiet mtn road so you can actually hear a motorcycle or car coming from a mile away. We just move to the side IF and when they come!

I'm not sure why but some riders fight about rights and taking the lane on the way up....at 8 MPH? We do the courteous and safe thing to do, move out of the way and let them pass. Most drivers will swing way out to avoid any danger which is much appreciated.

This is the vid I posted the other day. Notice that when traffic is present, we hug the side. Drivers are usually courteous when we act in the same manner. As for myself, I'm cool with the motorcycle drivers. I wave, nod etc and even talk with them. In return, they drive by and wave from a safe distance and speed. Many other cylists have problems with them but that's a different mentality and thread.

It's funny how people sometimes forget a simple rule, motorcycle left side of lane, bicycle right side of lane, considering that neither is even 1m wide, then on even a 3m wide lane, there should be no problem.
