Fire Bad

I was scheduled to do an organized century ride this past Sunday, but it was canceled due to the local wildfires in northern Colorado. At first they were just going to postpone it, but then a second fire started that burned RIGHT ON the ride route. Blech.

I should have gone out on my own for a long ride, but ended up working all day from home instead.

I'm going to do an unsupported century this weekend. If they get the fires under control, I'll head up there and take pictures of the burn area. If not, then I'll head out onto the prairie. It should be fun.

These fires are getting crazy, All the July rain made for some excellent fuel. It's sad how the Boulder one was started. Take care man!

Yeah, the Boulder fire was started by a member of the local volunteer fire department. Over 160 homes lost on that one. Whew!

The fire just west of Loveland was started by a BBQ pit ember setting off some nearby dry grass. Only a couple of homes lost up there. Yesterday, they were talking about evacuating all of the homes along the Big Thompson River, and the major roads that go up to Rocky Mountain National Park. A big damn mess. They are letting people go back home from the evacuated area near Loveland today.

I should have rode by myself on Sunday. I've ridden the 100-mile route every year for the last four years on that ride (Buffalo Bicycle Classic). Since money is tight, this is the only organized ride that I signed up for this year. I'm going to sign up for 2 or 3 next year. I really like organized events, if they are run well
