I started riding a road bike two years ago at 275. As I was searching for a better saddle one of my friend (who I refer to as "mean ole Bob") kept asking how many miles I had and I would tell him and he'd say "keep pedaling, it's not the saddle it's your butt", Sure enough, after about 1500 miles I quit hurting and now I have nearly 9000 miles on the Specialized Avatar, I'm down 25 lbs, and on long rides the saddle is the least of my problems (I don't coast much anymore though)

My best "lean" weight is 215, and I'm usually around 225. I rode on a Brooks B-17 in the '70's and '80's until I bought a TREK 560 in '86, it had the "latest greatest thing" and I rode it for a few years until I bought a new "latest, greatest thing," I rode it for a few years until I bought a new "latest, greatest thing" and rode that until the cover tore and the gel oozed out. Then I went back to what worked-Brooks. I honestly think it's a graduation requirement for MIT students to design a new saddle to torture us. I have since tried VO saddles on two bikes and are reasonably happy, although they required a break-in period that I have never noticed with Brooks. I have also found that using leather saddles I can do without chamois padding in my shorts. I'm too young for diapers anyway.
