I'm Brink, and I'm a clydesdale.
This is my first post here. My wife bought me a bike for my birthday, and I'm using it to get into shape. I weigh 230 pounds, and I really want to get to 180. I've always been a big guy, but this is about to change. With protein shakes, eating reasonable meals, and my two-wheeler, I should be able to get some change going on here.

My dream is to join the army, and to get an education through there. I'm just too far out of shape. And I'm sick of it. I'm using to stay accountable, and my wife and neighbors are pushing me hard to get this gut off me.

This is really hard to put down into words. I'm big, and I know it. But at least here, people know where I am coming from.

Just wanted to check in, and to let the rest of the big guys/girls know that you are not alone.

Welcome. I too was 230 - now 201 - since MAY! Weight training (for upper body only) helped me tremendously in addition to the cycling. Food is still a struggle though. Take some pix so you can document your progress...

Make your ticker longer so it moves more noticeably...maybe start/end weight?

welcome aboard! my goal weight is 180 also. I started at 255 and am now down to 244 (in a little over a month). Hang in there. And keep posting your progress, you'll be a-ok.

Welcome to a good bunch. You have a solid plan in mind. You have the rest of your life in front of you. go grab it and make it the life you really want it to be, sell your TV if you need to. Grab life, its an incredible adventure for those who want it to be.

First off welcome.

Also, start getting ready for the fitness test now. Have you talked to a recruiter? When I worked at a group home and one of my kids was joining the army the recruiter and him would work out together regularly.

You'll find lots of great advice and encouragement here. Reading the stories and success of others has helped me continue towards my goals. Still a work in process here, but started out Summer of '09 at 250 lbs and now at 190 (on my way down to 170).

Welcome..... I started the year at 320lbs and I'm now down to 210lbs and feel great. If I did it so can you, and don't let anything discourage you. I suggest having a visit with you Doc and let him/her know what your up to and he/she can help and be sure your fit enough for the type of diet, and exercise you plan. Good luck and keep us informed.

Welcome Brink, my name's Dan and I'm an alco... wait! Wrong meeting!

I came back to biking four years ago after about 15-years off due to asthma, too much work, getting married, blah, blah, blah. I weighed 245-lbs. I'm down to about 180-lbs now and am targeting 150-160lbs by next year in order to get back into racing. It's slow and steady progress, no magic bullets here. Keep your head up and be unreasonable with yourself! Best of luck to you!

Welcome Brink!
While I can't personally inspire you much through my weight loss(think of a yo-yo), I am much healthier now than when I started riding again 2 years ago. My energy level is WAY up, cholesterol and sugar WAY down, as well as blood pressure and resting heart rate. In fact, the last 2 times I've been to give blood, the nurse has commented on how low my RHR was(50 and 52 respectively, and I'm 53 y/o). Best luck to you, and keep on riding!

Welcome to the forums! Ridding a bike beats any kind of exercise i have tried because it keeps you entertaining and time flies when you asre having fun. Just make a routine of ridding at least 2-3 times a week and keep at it. Dont get discouraged because you will prabably hit a plateau... just keep going and the weight will take care of itself.

I would also like to be 180... Im 27 and about 190 right now.
