How long is a bike a new bike...?

I put my 1,000th mile on my Cervélo Saturday. I've had it for two and a half months. Is it still my new bike, or "just" my road bike, vs my commuter/utility bike? I don't even have a picture of it yet, if that changes the answer?

How does it work with your bikes? When does the latest addition to the family stop being new?

1000 miles is no longer new. The chain is past it's halfway point, and the tires are worn even if they will live on for a time. On the other hand, it's more "yours" than it was when it had 5 miles on it.

The generic answer is that once you drive it, it is no longer new. New implies 'never used'. This is the definition that would apply if you were trying to sell the bike.

Then again, to anybody that hasn't see you since you got it, to them that's your 'new' bike.

Hell, it is your bike. You can call it 'the bike I eventually want to get' if that is what you want.

When you get tired of picking it to ride, or when you get another new bike.

I see what you did there. Trying to curse me to N+1? Are you suggesting I need a fixie?

Face it, none of us NEED a new bike.
Now we all may want a new bike, but that is not need.
N+1 is always a GREAT thing.

Every one needs a SS/fixie!

Oh yea, I forgot, Seattle is the home of Bill Davidson. I hear he makes great bikes.

'Tis true. One's current new bike is only new until the next new bike.

New doesn't mean it has to be new from the LBS either. New is, new to you!

You know it's gone too far when the formula becomes N more like N cubed + 1.

There are no pictures, this thread is in vain. The bike in question is a phantom, expecially for a CERV! You have had a Cervelo for over a week and don't have a camera, haven't taken a picture? Get busy slacker.

Well, I have two cameras ... but neither of them actually work. Ironically, they both died in the same storm while I was hiking in the North Cascades.

It's a new bike, then it's the newest bike, then it's the bike I had before the one I just got.
