Hello From a La Noob
Hi, everybody!
I'm John and I'm in NW Louisiana. I've been a lurker here since '08 and decided to finally introduce myself. This is an AWESOME site and you all have been a tremendous source of info and motivation for me over the past couple of years.
I maybe should have done this in the Introductions Forum but I'm a Clyde and feel more at home here (little people make me nervous! lol).
Anyway, I just wanted to sat "hello". I can't wait to dive in with y'all!
John

Cool man, welcome. You've never wanted to participate in a discussion? Or do threads just always show up in Google results?

Hi, Crawfish. And thanks!
Twobad, I've come close to pulling the trigger quite a few times but, honestly, never really felt that I had very much to contribute. I've just enjoyed reading through the topics and collecting the wisdom of those who have posted. I'm still not sure that I have much to contribute, lol, but maybe I know something that another newbie can find helpful. Kind of like a way of payin' it forward.

Well, just Google stuff, pretend you know what you're talking about, repeat whatever you've heard, and when that doesn't work, just make stuff up. You'll fit in just fine.

Jethro, no, I'm afraid not. But I do enjoy a good read when I can find one.

Howdy Neighbors! I'm still new also so don't feel bad. Funky, I hope you don't ride on Hwy 20... scenic but looks like a good place to get flattened, or wet (and then eaten by gators)!

I do, actually. It's not that bad, but I have since learned to use tire liners. I have actually run over a dead alligator on Hwy 20 on my bike.

Hi, Camper and Beasley! Stick, I haven't had too much trouble with Gator Evasion up here (I'm in Bossier City), but I do have to juke around a wandering coyote or deer on a fairly regular basis. I've actually had young coyotes come out onto the road and run along side me. It's a little unnerving but it's kind of cool. No riding this morning, though. We actually have snow on the ground (and still falling) and I forgot to put the chains on my tires.
Anyway. glad to see so many homies in the house!

Street you need to set up a video camera for the coyotes! That would be so cool!!!!
I work in Laplace and I'm starting to see the occasional coyote. They're living in the bonne carre spillway and are sneaking into some of the neighborhoods along Hwy 51.
It hasn't been good riding weather this week.

Camper, I've actually thought about doing just that. I'm trying to upgrade to a new bike soon but a helmet cam is something else that I've kinda been thinking about. I have a TON of hawks along some of my routes and, from time to time, I'll have one drop down to about head height and kind of glide along with me. They usually stay about 20-30 yards away, though. The coyotes have actually gotten within just 5 or 6 feet. It's always just pups but I get concerned that Momma may be on the other side of the road and see me between her and her baby. Like I said, cool, but unnerving, lol.
The weather here is crap, too. Should take a turn for the better tomorrow, though.
John

Hi guys, and welcome.
I was born in NOLA, but my widowed mom married a damed Yankee and moved us North when I was young. I have fond memories of visiting relatives in the city, and especially fond memories of trips to Plaucheville, Hammond, Slidell, Abita Springs (my mother's parents lived there) and Lake Arthur. One of my bucket list trips is a ride down the Natchez Trace Parkway, visit my sister in Baton Rouge, and then into LA for a bit of riding.

Hi, Judy! I'd like to do some riding in the Southern part of the state, too. I've got some good friends in Slidell. Maybe that would make a good starting point. In the meantime, we have plenty of room if you ever decide to come back!

Slidell is a great place to start, you can hit the Tammany Trace trail and really have a blast. It's very bike friendly, except for a few highway crossings. I hear it's a very nice ride.

I'm actually thinking about a tour around Christmas 2014 - January 8, 2015, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans.

Welcome Street Pedaler!
I lurked for a few months before i joined the forum and that was just in the commuting section. After a while I built up enough nerve to lurk the Clyde/Athena section and really like this place.
One day I might know enough to contribute in the Electronics section, but i think I need a PHd or something. A lot of times its like they are speaking a totally different language, I think its cyborg or Klingon.
Welcome to the Herd.

Judy, that would be cool. One of my "Bucket List" items is to ride across the U.S. Not anything like a RAAM ride, just take my time, ride the roads, and live the experience. I don't know why, but that thought is extremely appealing to me. Definitely, a ride along more of Louisiana's back roads will happen. I don't know when yet, but it'll happen.
Hi, Exile! I know exactly what you mean. I actually found myself enjoying just reading so much that I didn't want to mess up the experience by opening my mouth! lol. You're right about the Techie Forum, too. I've got some questions about helmet cams that I'd like to post but, even if I did, I'm not sure I'd understand the answers!!
