Loving this biking thing

Just got home from an 8 mile ride today. I went on a nice multi-use path near my house. It's built on an old railroad line so it's wide, relatively flat and pretty smooth. The 8 miles just flew by and I was nowhere near as tired as I was riding the hills around my neighborhood. I think I'll just try to push it a little further each time.

This sure beats the heck out of walking. Riding bikes is actually pretty fun. Who knew?

Welcome to the club.

I have commuted to work, gone on cycling vacations,
even picked up the groceries on my bike.

Have fun.

When I've ridden a bike that fits I find that I smile almost the whole time - except for when I'm climbing a hill, when I'm busy trying to breathe. I was surprised at how much I like it because it'd been a loooong time since I'd ridden a bike when we tried it again recently.

You'll find that the miles come together, when you're running on beanpower... 8]
Hills will invite you to truly grasp your gearing, and the size of your wheel will take on a new signifigance. Happy Travels!

I totally agree about the bike fit being a huge factor in enjoying riding. I had an el cheapo department store mountain bike that I bought probably 15 years ago. It spent most of its life on my garage wall. When I decided to try cycling again, I took it down, aired up the tires, gave it a once over tune-up/lube/adjustment and took it for a ride down the street and back. It sucked! The frame was too small for me (always had been I guess). The seat and handlebar positioning just wasn't comfortable at all. By contrast, my Trek feels like it was made just for me it's so comfortable. I love it.

I don't think the people behind me like it when I'm running on bean power.

Great to hear it. Always good when you finish a ride and feel great about it.
