I second these AQ34s, and their cousins, the Agu AQ24. I snagged three pairs of the AQ24 before they sold out in my size. Perfect for commuting in NYC and also for longer trips like the NYC>>Philly century I just did.


For around $90, I hear that Chrome is now making an SPD sneaker, and they look pretty badass if you're into Chucks!

I wear Specialized Tahoe shoes. They have a stiffer sole, but are still comfortable to walk around in while off the bike. They do not have the aggressive cleat like the mtb shoes have, but the sole provides a great deal of traction. I use the spd cleats on mine, but there are quite a few people who ive seen that dont.

I chose these shoes because I do a bit of bike touring and i do not have to take other shoes with me while on the road. Ive worn them while exploring caverns with alot of slick rocks, during ice conditions, and during heavy rains. I really like these shoes, highly recommend them in situations like ours. They have held up really well. Ive been wearing mine for over a year now and ive had no issues with them.

I have wide feet (4E) and a larger 11 1/2 - 12 size. They just opened up a Performance Bike store in our area so I headed there in search of some bike shoes. I went with the Mountain Bike style Performance Traverse shoes. They have a normal looking hiking boot-like tread pattern with a center piece that's screwed in that hides the clipless pedal hook-up. So I can convert to a clipless pedal system later on if I wanted to. I've worn them once so far out riding and they're pretty comfortable. I didn't feel the clipless pedal inset while riding or walking, just felt like normal stiff biking shoes.

According to their sizing chart my 11 1/2 to 12 would be a Forte's 46. Not likely! I tried on the 47 and they felt a bit too short. I don't like my toes to contact the front of the shoe at all and the 47's felt like they would under use. The 48's fit perfect. Plenty of toe box room, no toe contact and after loosening the laces a bit the width was just fine.

I have PEarl-Izumi X-Alp Enduro II's. I really love them, and they are comfortable enough to wear a whole day in the classroom (as I forgot my teachin' shoes!) Fairly light, but very comfortable, and the price was right, too.

Bike Nashbar always seems to have last year's model on sale for a very reasonable price. EekBay too. You should be able to find a pair of Shimano MTB shoes for around $35 ... if you are lucky. Most important is to have a very stiff sole.

I got a pair of these to take to Rome with me last April for when I rented a bike. Took my Crank Brother pedals too, (another great deal - got a pull set). Great shoe. Easy to walk in and the cleats, (if you even use them) are recessed so they don't contact the pavement when walking.

Maybe one of these will fit, you don't need to use clipless pedals if you prefer(mountain bike shoes).
