personal milestone: 5k this past year
hi folks,
this is probably the one forum where I can celebrate a bit without folks rolling their eyes (looking at you, Road forum).
the setup for this is that I have been fat since I was a young kid and have never achieved anything athletic in my life. I was cut from JV basketball, injured myself while trying weightlighting a few years back, and can't run due to patellar tendinitis.
But this year I rode 5,000 miles. Evidence below.
Most of this was commuting (26m RT), but I did a number of long weekend rides including a century last summer. I am not a big fan of the long rides, though, both because my family gets annoyed when I am gone all day Saturday and also because they leave me insanely hungry for a couple days afterward.
So this year I will probably mostly do commuting and focus on eating less. I would like to drop another 40# so I can be faster on the hills. Maybe a 200km brevet, but this year I'm more about speed than distance.
