I don't want to ride tonight!

It's hot outside
It's humid outside
Omw, it's hot AND humid outside. Feels like Texas in August!
Tonight is my hill night, I don't wanna do hills, I'm too tired
My knee hurts
My legs are gonna hurt tomorrow if I ride tonight
Maybe I ought to drive down to the MUP and take it easy tonight

These are the thoughts that kept going through my head as I put my kit on, aired my tiers, clipped in and headed out my driveway. These and one final one, "HTFU and just do it."

Back from my ride now, enjoying the endorphins sipping a diet Pepsi.

Feels good, doesn't it? You made the right call!

GeoBigJon 07-06-11 07:13 PM

Ahh, the after ride endorphins, gotta love it. Congrats.

I had to take today off and I really missed riding.

zandoval 07-06-11 11:33 PM

Here is where you go - Why did I not want to ride - And the answer is I need more than one bicycle... Ah..Ha...

My wife went to NYC last night and I had the house to myself. watching 5 stages of the Tour de France I really wanted to hit the bike trail last night. We had some on and off rain in the afternoon so I was hoping it would stop last night. As I got the garage door open, the winds kicked up, sky got dark, heavy rain and lightning. I closed the garage door and watched the replay of Stage 5.

Tonight is a motorcycle night so no bicycling either. Tomorrow the wife and I will get back on the local trail.

nice post! thanks for sharing. how are your knees? you had me on the edge of my seat when you mentioned the MUP. MUPs are so alluring. but I'll bet your legs felt amazing when you got home.

I hate those thoughts. I had them this morning when my alarm went off. Actually hit snooze and thought, "I'll just go tonight". Forced myself up, got on the bike and beat my best time by 11 seconds on my 15.5 loop! Feel great now.

I have found, down the street, left turn on to the main drag, all those
thoughts are gone.

Had the same thoughts for my morning commute but I wasn't as successful. The when I did try and force myself I still didn't go because it was so foggy out that I could barely see my neighbours house. I justified to myself that it probably isn't a great idea to ride on a two lane highway in dense fog. Now it is wonderful out so I could have just come in late (my boss is away today) and got my 65km commute in instead of a 30km ride after the kids are in bed.

Kudos to you!

Crazydad 07-07-11 11:15 AM

Thanks. I hate those days, but I don't blame you. Riding in fog is not something I would do.

I have a regular Wednesday night MTB ride... I came very close to cancelling but couldn't get ahold of my ride partners so I went anyway. I have been fighting a cold and didn't feel well plus its very hot and humid here (high 80's - 90's - 60% humidity) and I hate riding in hot weather.

But, I went, I rode and I had a great time! We started at 6pm and by then the breeze was cooling things off plus alot of the trail was now in the shade. By the time we finished (at 8 pm) it was perfect out!

So bottom line, I (WE!) just need to force myself to get out and once there, all will be fine. The best thing that happen was my partners had their cell phones turned off! It's tough getting motivated sometimes - thankfully I was alittle on "cruise control" and didn't overthink the situation.

Knee did great, about 10 minutes into the ride it loosened up and the pain faded.

I really think that many of us (Clydes/Athenas) have a problem with delayed gratification, hence settling for food, when we know that if we only eat less and exercise more now, we will feel better down the road.

Frankly I felt great after the ride, during the ride I wanted to stop and puke my guts out a couple of times though (I hate hills, although the 30 mph down hills were fun). I LOVE the feeling that comes from having exercised, yet too often I don't go there, because I don't want to experience the process.

The breeze from a nice pace on a bike is a wonderful thing on hot days.

Yes most of us clydes have a serious love/hate relationship with gravity.

bigbadwullf 07-07-11 12:52 PM

I hate to say this but I'm starting to really like hills........................................stone that man!
I did a beyond-hilly event ride and found out when I got back home, I can crush my group riders on hills now. He he he.
