Favorite sports drink,other than water.

While I agree there's nothing to beat but good ice water,I like something to give me a good pick me up afterwards. I like good old fashioned Gatorade. And I like the original flavor lemon-lime. My wife bought me a container that makes 24 qts. or 6 gallons. She said Wal-Mart only had two flavors and I don't like the blue, grape or cherry flavors. I can drink orange if needed. What do you all like?

Gatorade diluted 50/50 with water.

I prefer the premade stuff as the powder just doesn't taste the same to me.

During my ride I drink Nuun tablets in water. https://www.nuun.com/

Afterward I've been drinking chocolate milk. I've been staying away from the store bought "sports drinks" as they have too much cr@p in them for my liking.

Clif Lemonade flavor powder mix. High in electrolytes, low in processed sugar. Uses natural ingredients like brown rice and fruit based sugars. I mix it more diluted than the label recommends, usually 2 scoops per 24oz bottle. Gatorade powder mix is my second choice when Clif isn't available and I also use that more diluted than recommended. If I have to stop midride and refill I usually just stick with Gatorade even though I think it has too much sugar. YMMV.

+1 for NUUN, except for the cola and banana flavours. Blech! The cola one, once it stops fizzing, is just a flat Pepsi. The banana one is banana, in a consistency that bananas should never be. Don't get me wrong; I like bananas as a mid-ride snack. They're just not meant to be liquid.

I drink HEED during rides. It's an acquired taste, but the benefits are worth it. After a race, I usually drink some sort of Gatorade G3. I prefer that over the regular ones because the taste isn't as strong. When I'm hot and tired, I don't like anything with a strong taste. Clif made (or maybe still makes) a drink called Quench, and that was my favorite, but I can't find it anywhere around here any more.

One bottle is (almost always) straight water.

My other bottle...

For short (<1hr) rides, I drink sugar-free sports drinks - powered form is fine (Kroger brand Hydration packets FTW).

For longer rides, I move to a full-carb sports drink. Gatorade, usually.

Can't really stand the original yellow stuff. Oranges are usually safe flavor-wise, as are the darker blue colors - but one of the light blue colors tastes like the bottom of a locker room broom, and I can never remember which one it is. Red is a fallback if I can't find Rain, Orange, or Dark Blue.

But my favorite is the 'Rain' series of Gatorades (especially the pink/purple Berry). It's got the diluted flavor benefits of a 50/50 mix, without diluting the levels of carbs and electrolytes - which I why I drink a sports drink in the first place.

On rides > 2 hrs, I make sure to bring electrolyte pills to take when I'm drinking my 2nd water-only bottle. And food for the carbs (fig bars are perfect here).

I drink Powerade Zero, the label says 0 calories per serving and there are "about 2.5" servings per 32oz bottle so I am sure there are a few calories in there in there as per the as long as its under X amount of calories we can say its zero thing but the lower the better for me. I usually bring 1 bottle of the powerade and 1 32oz bottle of H2O on a ride (20-25 milles on a rail trail is my "usual" ride) and have a bottle of powerade waiting for me back at the truck for the ride home or just in case it was a longer ride than normal.

I have only once not properly hydrated while riding and won't let it happen again, it was not pleasant.

As Ever

For really long rides (200k+) I bring along a couple bottles of Ensure Plus. Over the course of a 9hr ride I try and keep my intake at 300cal/hr, and Ensure Plus works well in that capacity.

I've never been a big fan of Nuun. The flavors all seem pretty weak and mixing it is a pain, since it's designed to be made in 16oz increments. I've switched over to Camelbak Elixir. The tablets are designed for a 24oz bottle, so they're easy to mix, and the flavor isn't nearly as watery as Nuun. They're still not super-sweet, so if you like regular Gatorade or Gatorade G2 you'll find that Camelbak Elixir is a little bland.

If I'm looking for a drink that contains carbs, I usually go with CarboRocket. Not super-sweet and the maltodextrin seems to keep my blood sugar from spiking, as usually happens with other sports drinks. It's a bit pricey and the supply seems to be a bit inconsistent, so I've been using Hammer Gel as my primary carb source. I love the Apple-Cinnamon flavor; just like eating an apple pie!

I don't have a problem with the Nuun in a 24 oz bottle because I just add 1 1/2 tablets.

Also, the flavors have been changed recently and they're much better. I haven't tried the cola or banana but I really like the tri-berry. The mango is OK. However, the strawberry-lemonade is nasty! It's decent when cold but when it gets warm it tastes like fish water.

If its really hot I like to put one scoop of gatorade powder in both of my bottles. I prefer the lemon-lime or orange. On longer rides I have this plus a 3 liter camelbak. Probably overkill but I like to stay hydrated.

During longer rides I'll drink unflavored heed as well. I don't need it to pretend its something else. Tastes pretty close to plain water.

I usually go for water on shorter rides (90 mins. or less). On longer rides i like Gatorarde G2 in orange, lemon-lime or grape. It tastes good and has only 1/2 the calories of regular Gatorade. I try to eat a Clif or other granola bar to keep my energy levels up.

I get a container at Smart & Final that makes 36 quarts and usually only comes in Lemon Lime (only flavor I use). I think it's up to $11 now, used to be $9.

I like the blue flavor but it makes me blue tinkle!

My longest ride is only 22 miles so I have been drinking only water.

But I confess, when I get home from a ride I drink a Diet Coke. Nums!

I like regular ol' Gatorade, packed full o' ice that dilutes it as it melts. But I always make sure I have plain water somewhere. Gatorade is too sticky when you pour it over your head on a hot day

I can't stand Gatorade (G2). I tried mixing it 1/2 and 1/2 with plain water but even so it makes me nauseous. I've switched to orange Gu Brew and tolerate that just fine (although it's still mixed half strength). I'm trying to find the right combination of carbs and electrolytes to ride long distances (40+ miles).

Have you tried this?

https://www.infinitnutrition.us/information/osmofit.asp

A friend of mine swears by it. I haven't tried it on rides (but I have tasted it and it tastes pretty good). They let you customize every aspect of your drink, and the price isn't that bad.

I had the same problem 20 years ago with a different product. It was a low cost sugar free drink mix. It gave me greenish urine.
