Can I join this group??? Silly question but I just wanted to say I’m a Newbie.

I rode for a bit back in 2004, I was a Clyde then too. I’ve been a huge Road Cycling Fan for years and I finally went to a Professional Race for a few days this year. It was the last 3 days of the Tour of California, I was so psyched I dusted for the 2004 Trek 2200 ZR-9000 Road Bike and tried to ride it. Guess what? I was too fat and I couldn’t breathe with my hands on the handlebars. I bought a Schwinn Hybrid and started riding at 298lbs. When I hit 285lbs I had my LBS put straight bars on my Trek Road Bike and then when I hit 265lbs I bought my Cannondale Synapse Carbon 3 Ultegra Road Bike and I’m loving it.

There is only one exercise I enjoy doing and that’s riding. I’d rather climb a hill than ride a flat road. I try to ride 5 days a week and average 20 miles a day. My longest ride has been 32 mile but that took two solid days of recover. I live in Southern California but my work requires a lot of traveling so I drag my bike where ever I go. I recently took it when I worked in Hawaii and Colorado and I’m taking it to London is a couple of weeks.

I’m really glad to find this group, I thought I was the only “Robust” man crazy enough to get on a bicycle.

welcome!

i would love to see the evolution of your bike-choices....would be cool to see the series. i'm hoping to move into a carbon road bike eventually and am working on getting up to riding 5 days a week on my hybrid. 20mi 5 days a week is pretty awesome...how hilly is it?

Fullerton, climb a hill? Welcome man! I you ever wnt to do some climbing, my wife Gina and I do some easier paced climbs up Glendora Mountain Rd. 8 miles on the weekends. Sometimes a bit further depending on how the riders feel. It eases up a bit after the first 8 and it's rolling all the way down so you can never get in to deep. We do friendly rides so no need to feel you have to race anyone. Our rides are friendly social "you can do it" type rides when we climb GMR.

Plus Hillbasher and I do GMR most Wednesdays. We both have no probem cruising up with newbs looking to do a great ride. Riders the do GMR, will return it's such a nice ride.

400 miles a month doing good! I started my weight lose journey 8 pounds less than you! Two years ago almost!! I am now at 183 with hopes of 175! I walked till this past summers heatwave at which point I returned to biking; not sure what I will do in the future but I think 75% bike 25% walk (only cause the lab mutt thinks he should have fun too and I like to hike). Here's to OUR (all the clydes) health!

Hand held. :D

I did learn the hard way after crashing hard on MTB that if I plan on recording some fast downhill, I place the neck lanyard on the recorder. That way if i approach a high speed switchback, I can just drop the camera even if I don't have time to push the stop record button.:D

I have recorded a few scenes with the camera swinging around at 40 mph but can't post it or viewers would get motion sickness.:p

how do you travel with your bike? Do you have a hard case for it?

Sundance89 08-25-11 03:21 PM

Call me Sherlock, but is it just a coincidence that you rode for a bit back in 2004 . . . and your old bike is a 2004 TREK . . . AND you became a member on this forum in July 2004. Hmmm?

Whatever dark cycling tunnel you went through all the years, we rejoice that you came out on the other side and are back on your bike again! Right on bro . . . er, rather, Ride on bro!! :thumb:

I use an EVOC Bike bag. I really like it, the bag, bike, helmet, shoes and a couple tool still weigh under 50lbs. It's still oversize length wise but most airlines get you twice $100 overweight & $100 oversize. Southwest is only $50.

This is the video that sold me on it but takes me about 45 minutes to break the bike down and pack it with a bit of bubble wrap.

It's mostly rolling hills, I'm near the base of the foothills. I gain about 500 feet over 3 miles heading north. I kind of have to work at finding hills to climb. There's a couple of what MapMyRide classifies as Category 5 hills near by I'll do if it very light traffic and I really feel like testing myself.

I'm going to start a new thread for this one. It's a long story.

Hmm, the GMR invite must have scared this guy cause he won't reply to any of my posts. Whatever!

Umm... Umm... I think I got to wash my hair this weekend.

Is that the road the Tour of California came down before going back up to Mt. Baldy? I want to go check it out before I commit!
Thanks for the offer, I will take you up on this at some point soon.

They went up Baldy Rd (very steep) down GRR, then down to hwy 39. Across (east) to GMR then up the entire climb consisting of GMR/GRR/ and Baldy Rd.

This section is only 8 miles from LoneHill/Sierra Madre area to the shack at 8 miles. 2200 feet n 8 miles 6% average.

It's not that hard and a great ride. If you go once, you will be back!:thumb:

Anytime you feel like riding it, let me know. Don't wash your hair first, it will only get dirty. ;)
