New Clyde worthy 29er wheels
Broke the rear wheel and bent the front factory wheels on my Specialized Expert 29er (carbon frame hardtail). I knew the rims (24mm) were sketchy for off road use at my weight (250), but I only ride the bike on the pavement, so I thought they'd work great - nope. Anyway, I had Jude at Sugar Wheelworks in Portland build me up a set on Velocity Blunt rims (28mm). Red isnt my favorite color, but she gave me a deal on them. The 700x35 slicks fit great and the ride quality is much better. Anyway, if you're in the Portland area, check out Sugar Wheelworks - she's build two sets for me and they've been bombproof so far.

They look nice and durable. How many miles do you have on these bombproof wheelsets ?

I think they look very nice - clean and classy visually, to me.
If you ever feel like giving them a try, you might try some x32 slicks. So far I haven't liked the way my x35 slicks felt (very heavy, much slower, etc, than my road bike setup) on my Salsa Vaya, so I recently picked up a pair of slightly smaller slicks. The guy at my LBS (great bunch of guys) said he knew lots of people that had felt the same way on 35s, and that a step down to 32s made a huge difference. Just a thought. |
Cool, thx. I'll try them out when these wear out.
