Clyde eats that frog -- First Century Complete!!!!

Garmin Ride Data: https://connect.garmin.com/activity/113342274

Total distance was: 102.5 miles
Average Moving speed: 15.5 miles per hour
Average Heart Rate: 154 bpm

This was a big milestone for me. In July I attempted to ride RAIN (Ride Across INdiana) which is a 160 mile, one day, one way ride across the state. Prior to attempting RAIN my longest ride was 37 miles. I managed to lay down 93 miles that day before I bonked.

Today I not only rode a century, I tacked on another 2.5 miles for good measure! Best of all, it was for a great cause in the National MS Society!

Thanks for reading!

Thanks.... and I'm not sure what the Garmin's deal is with crazy high max speeds on my rides recently. Hopefully they'll patch that.

The bike I had fitted a couple of weeks ago. The surly may have been more comfortable, but it's not as fast, and it's as heavy as two of these Treks!

Prior to riding RAIN my longest was 37 miles last year at The HOPE ride. After and including RAIN I've done 93, and a bunch of ~30 mile rides. and one 58 mile ride.
Riding with a friend who was also looking to ride his first century really helped. If I was solo I suspect I would have followed the 75m course.

gotta be a data spike....
[shifty eyes] I was flying down a hill? [/shifty eyes] Actually I agree, The Garmin has been doing that on a lot of my rides recently. One claimed 99.95mph!

Photos From The Bike MS 150 'Cruisin The Crossroads'

Registration was inside.

Riders milling about waiting for things to kick off.

This hand powered bike was seriously cool, as was the guy who rode it. Arms like my legs on that guy!

ZIPP had a tent with all of their drool worthy aero wheels on display.

Here's the starting line, complete with one of the largest American flags I've ever seen!

And Here's me at the finish line after 100 miles.
I wanted to hold the bike, rubber side up over my head in the photo, but honestly I lacked the energy

I rode past the University High School on the closing leg of my ride today and saw some of the Day Two crowd. I also got to take advantage of a couple of intersection police controls that were set up for the benefit of this ride. I had forgotten all about it, to tell you the truth. It made me wonder if the handful of cyclists I saw passing through "downtown" Cicero earlier in the morning were part of the ride.

So there must be some truth to the statement that if you can ride 30 miles, you can ride 100?

I think the most important parts are knowing your heart rate zones, and how to fuel properly on the bike to keep going. Well and how to keep yourself inside the endurance zone.

beyond that I think there's likely a cliff you'll fall off at a given point, but I haven't found it on (non-heat wave days)
