NJ Cyclist tragedy.

This is scary. This Gentleman, whom I had met various times on my daily route, conversed with as he drafted of my back wheel numerous times, was struck and killed while riding with his wife on a particular road I ride nearly every day.

I intend to ride flowers over to the house this week. It such a tragedy.

Stay safe out there.

My condolences for your loss, callmeclemens.

I'm curious why police didn't charge the driver with something. I looked up the intersection of Pitman and Golf Club Road, and as I understand it from the report in the newspaper article the car turned into incoming traffic.

Will be bringin over flowers and home cooked stuff too. This saddens me a lot since we do what we love...riding.... and something like this happened. And the fact that his wife was riding behind him.

Rona 09-13-11 04:05 AM

So sad. My condolences.

callmeclemens 09-13-11 05:31 AM

Yeah, It's just to surprising the volume of traffic out that way is so small and that particular intersection is a four way stop. I guess it just goes to show you that unfortunately we're never really safe.

Very sad.

So sad... and to be his wife right there when it happened... I don't have words....

What time of day was it? The incredibly detailed, poorly written blurb doesn't mention it. Since most of us dress like parrots, it's hard to believe that she didn't see TWO riders!

I've been hit by a car while crossing the street, in the cross walk and my knee is messed up for life. I've also been brushed by cars while riding and it's astounding to me how little care people take when driving.

How distressing for his wife and family... and tragic.

Tragic story. Yesterday, I was run off the road on three separate occasions while on my ride. Once by a School Bus that blew a Stop Sign, once by a guy who reversed out of his driveway at about 15mph without looking (he did stop to apologize, though), and, finally, by an IDIOT in a Ryder truck driving toward me in MY lane so that he could make a right turn. WTF? It's an Internal Combustion Engine Jungle out there. As Callmeclemens said, be careful.

This is a sad story, my condolences.

So, am I gathering that if you have someone you'd like to murder, just hit them with your car while they are riding their bike. Say you didn't see them, get away with it penalty free (or minor slap on the wrist).

On a completely unrelated note, what's the best way to turn non-cyclists into cyclists without them knowing it was your idea?

jimnolimit 09-14-11 05:44 PM

the link stated that he had what appeared non-life threatening fractures and died of cardiac rest, i wonder if the crash some how caused the cardiac rest or if it was just crazy bad timing?

either way, it's a bad situation and i send condolences to his family and friends.
