Two kinds of riders

Those who have crashed... and those who are going to.

Last night I joined the former. A car buzzed me and cut back too fast - driving me into the curb. Unfortunately I was sprinting at the time. So I went over my bars at approximately 25 mph. And, no, he didnt stop. Ah, good times, good times.

Today I am sitting home nursing a dislocated shoulder and popping vicodin (yum yum).

The three real b*tches about this are:

1) My wheelset has been in the bike, literally, a week.
2) I have a 62 mile rally on the 1st I need to be in shape for!
3) Its a gorgeous day for a ride - and I cant!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the plus side, this gives me time to work on my jersey design.

If it's an expensive wheelset, check with your homeowners or renter's insurance to see if the accident is covered. Heck, check anyway; your medical bills might get up there.

Second... heal before getting back on the bike. 62 miles isn't that bad; if you've ridden 40 miles in a day, you'll be fine.

I just had my 1st crash in 40 years but I just started back riding again last spring. We (my son and I) were riding in heavy fog trying to get off a high traffic highway and I was going to fast for the turn. I crossed a ditch at over 20 mph and went flying. So, now I'm with you but nursing two broken ribs with a lot of boredom and pain killers.

I crashed while worried about my safety, plus the night before the ride I read the article in a bike magazine about how to minimize a crash. I must have jinxed myself! :lol

Feel better soon! Oh btw, we were 5 miles in to our 1st metric 100 when I crashed. This was on Labor Day weekend. We are still looking to do a 100 miler by April 1st.

The ba$tard that drove you into the curb did you get his/her plate number?? If so file assault with a deadly weapon charges with the local LEO's.

Yes, a car can be considered a "deadly weapon"...........

Nope I was too focused on the "oh, sh*t, this is gonna hurt" and how to NOT land on my head (that's how I dislocated my shoulder)

You should contact a lawyer...If you own an automobile and purchased "uninsured motorist" (UM) coverage, and med-pay or PIP, you might have a claim against your own carrier.

While you're injured, go get a lawn chair and sit down on the road where you crashed... most drivers drive the same route every day. Maybe you can figure out who dunnit.

Funny... I was just making fun of two friends who crashed this weekend... we were on our week day ride last night when all of a sudden my bike took off with me on it! (we were mountain biking). I have no idea what happened but I ended up splayed out in a dry bed of thistles. I am still itchy from that.

That'll teach me for making fun of others!

Heck, I'm just glad no one is making fun of me for my sprint speed being 25 mph.

So how did you get where you need to go (emergency room?) after the accident? I have this vision of you with your arm hanging all funny, you in big pain, not able to ride the bike even if was in a condition to ride.

I called my wife and then laid there until she showed up. Luckily, while I was 15 miles into my ride, I was only about 4 miles from home.

And I blew out the front tube. I *hope* that's the only damage. I need to take the bike to the shop tomorrow and make sure the wheel is still rideable.

Yeah I know the OH S%$T this is going to hurt thought! Though mine is from my oen stupidity! I was going down into the pedestrian underpass. I knew there had been a water leak from 1) driving throgh the area at 6a.m. and seeing more water than I had every seen, including downpour rains, coming out of the strom drains for said ped-underpass in to the autounpderpass and 2) there was mud at the top end. I hit the mud at about 12 mph and made it about a 1/6 of the way through the mud before I started going squarrley and a 1/3 of the way before the bike was riding me (sort of). The fun thing is after it was done and I checked me and the bike for injury; I realized that the ride(/slide?) in the mud had been fun. I would not want to do it again, at 50 years old bone can break and pain is a unwanted friend but it was still fun like a roller coaster is fun!?!
