Back Home And Pedaled Up

Got the Madone back from the lbs just a little while ago complete with a brand new Bottom Bracket and a set of SPD's and shoes. So, today, I guess, is the day I make the switch to clipless.

For the next little while, I'll set up in a doorway and practice clipping in/ out. The "In" part I'm not so worried about. The "Out" part is where the concern comes in, lol. Hopefully, I'll put her out on the road later today but, if not, tomorrow morning for sure.

So, yeah... I think I smell a Road Burger and I think the meat is me. Groovy.

Loosen them up and go ride. It's not that dramatic!

Just make sure you take the same foot out all the time (or both) and make sure you take it out WELL in advance of where you want to stop. The only time you're going to tip over and crash is when you think you don't need to unclip and then panic and forget what you're doing.

I assume SPDs get easier to unclip after a while - my wife has them (new last week) and complains. I never have trouble with my speedplays.

+1 I fell once when practicing but have fallen a half-dozen times post-practicing and in my "comfort zone". I have a nasty habit of slowing way down at a T junction with the intention of riding on if the coast is clear of traffic. The problem arises if the coast is NOT clear and I have suddenly commited myself to unclip at an almost zero speed. Then I wobble when attempting to unclip, the bike leans to my non-usual unclip side and I panic, cant get my weak foot out of the clip and over I go.. :)

In situations like that, just unclip anyway. If you decide to stop put your foot down.
If you end up continuing just clip-in again.

:lol:HA! So far, no problems. I just unclip a foot and, if I have to stop I can just put it down. If the coast is cleat, a pedal stroke will clip it back in. I just have to remind myself EVERY SINGLE time, lol. I actually like the clipless, though. I never realized how much better the pedal stroke would feel over just using platforms. :thumb:
