Anyone have an N+2 problem?

I'm going to be buying a new bike next month... my first road bike. I can't wait!

But... I keep thinking more and more about what bike I'm going to buy after that as well... which I also can't wait for! A Moonlander! Argh!

This is frustrating...

Cool... N+2? I've still got 2 more in the shed I have to decide how to upgrade. In addition to my MTB and the Cannondale roadie I wrecked in August...

Yup. I've had my Madone for only about three weeks and I already am mentally shopping for more. I love my two bikes. The Madone is perfect pavement. The Quick now is perfect gravel path and dirt road.

I want an ICE Adventure, which is perfect recliner on wheels. Perfect for a few days tour.

Maybe next summer if I keep my weight off for a year.

So what road bike are you getting? The Moonlander seems perfect for winter, eh?

How about N+5? These are what I've been wanting:

"Fast" road bike
'Cross bike
Mountain bike
Cargo bike
Gravel bike

I have the cargo bike, but haven't paid for it yet.

I think my next bike will be a canoe. Can't decide if my adventure next summer will be to bike the Banff Jasper Parkway in the Canadian Rockies, or canoe the Bowron Lakes again.

Dreaming of a kevlar Sea Clipper, and some ocean touring after the Bowron Lakes.
Cost? About the same as a carbon bike with full Ultegra group.

I recently built a single speed Vassago Fisticuff and now I also want the Moonlander. I already have a Surly LHT so the Moonlander seems to be the next logical step. Damn you Surly!!!

Since my wife is addicted now, referring to herself as such instead of just me, n+1 has become n+2. If dad buys one, he better plan on one for mom, too. This week it was BMC road bikes. Mtn bikes are next, though she is real interested in a fixie or ss.

What have I started? I've even sold two guns and a drift boat to afford bikes and bike stuff! Do I need therapy????

Nah, no secret. Still finalizing parts for it before I build it. Here's what I've got picked so far:

Code:
Part Type First Choice Second Choice Third Choice Notes
Frame Surly LHT 700C Surly LHT 26" Prefer blue, Still considering 700C vs 26"
Front Hub Shimano XT M770 36h
Rear Hub Shimano XT M770 36h x2 for spare rear wheel
Rims ? x3
Spokes ? x114 (36+36+36+2+2+2), two spare spokes for each spoke length
Tires Unknown 40mm? Unknown 35mm? Leaning towards Schwalbe Marathon Supreme, but could be convinced otherwise
Crank/BB Deore 48/36/26 (M590?) Tiagra 50/39/30 Contingent on lowest chainring possible.
Granny Ring 20t 22t 24t 20/22 for 64mm BCD, 24 for 74mm BCD
Cassette Tiagra 12-30 10sp Deore 11-34 10sp Deore 11-36 10sp if 20t granny, go with 12-30, if 22t granny, go with 11-34, if 24t, go with 11-36
Chain 10 speed
Shifters/Brake Levers Shimano STI
Front Derailleur Whatever's compatible
Rear Derailleur Whatever's compatible
Brakes Shimano CX70 Shimano M550 Word is the CX70 has better braking power and better clearance, so probably prefer those.
Bottle cages Black generic x5
Front Rack Surly
Rear Rack Surly
Saddle Brooks Champion Flyer Brooks B17 Love the springs of the Flyer, but I wonder if non-sprung will be faster as I don't bounce as much
Pedals Clipless of some kind
Shoes Compatible with pedals
Lights Not sure
Accessory Garmin GSC10 magnets and sensor for Edge 500
Fenders Not sure (SKS?) Not sure if I'll get them yet.
Mirror Not sure
Bar tape Black?

I'll be leaning on the LBS to help me choose the components I haven't been able to pick out yet, like the derailleurs and shifters.

I can't get more bikes until my s.o. thins his herd... which has been accumulating for decades.

Being a hard core cycling enthusiast seems to go with pack-rat tendencies. I keep waiting to see an episode of Hoarding: Buried Alive in which someone can't move through his or her house due to all the bikes, wheels, frames, parts, tires, etc cluttering up the hallways and rooms.
