Opinions Wanted

I'm thinking of a new line of handbuilt wheels catering to Clydes and Athenas, as well as triathletes and road racers who want a slightly heavier, more durable aero wheel. I'm looking at a couple different deep aero rims, but would build these either 28/32 or 32/32 for extra strength. The costs would also be significantly less than many of the other wheels out there for similar profiles.

As a clyde trying to decrease his aero disadvantage, i'll pass until the wheels are the thing slowing me down. I'm woring towards that day though.

You'll expand your market significantly if you also build 24/28 or 20/24. It's nice to cater to the Clyde market, but I wonder if you'd have enough sales to keep going. Might as well try to attract the skinny crowd, too.

The costs would also be significantly less than many of the other wheels out there for similar profiles.
The wheel business is pretty competitive. I already know a guy who makes great hand-built wheels with whatever components I want at extremely attractive prices. How are you going to cut costs without compromising on components or build quality? What are you going to do to earn my business away from places that are already well-established? Something to think about...

The purpose behind the idea is to allow for training on sturdy aero wheelsets without trashing expensive race wheels. In training, the extra weight is not an issue, and this should allow for better handling with aero carbon wheels.

Most guys I know race on the same wheels that they train on. Even "cheap" carbon wheels are expensive enough that few people can justify owning multiple sets.
