Still riding. Did a quick 50 miler today. (now with working pic)

Picture fixed hopefully.

I'm getting into the solid below clyde weight now. I took this pic 5lbs ago. . . need to get a new one:

Just thought I'd stop by and post that I broke through my weight loss wall at 200lbs by eliminating gluten, grains, and processed sugars. I'm eating mainly, fruit, nuts, eggs, veggies, sweet potatoes, and meat. Its going really well, and my body comp is starting to change for the better.

Stick with it everyone. . . you can do it. This is since June of 2010. . .

From a nutritional point of view there is no point in avoiding glutens unless you are allergic to them. Glutens are simply proteins, which are good for you if you're exercising (unless of course, you're allergic to them).

Now, one could argue that since glutens are typically found in grains and grains are carbs, and carbs make you fat, sure, it's possible that avoiding glutens is healthier... but it's not the avoidance of the glutens that makes it healthy, it's the avoidance of the carbs. Personally I couldn't bear to give up all carbs, life would lose so much meaning doing that . But I've definitely cut back.

Anyhoo, grats on the weight loss. Very impressive, and yet more motivation that I should never give up.

My gluten avoidance has came from wanting to adopt a more primal diet. I'm operating on the guise that since added sweetners to everything and cheap flour came about since the 40's - no matter how much Americans diet, we seem to be largely overweight. I'm avoiding the following things:
Gluten
Wheat (any form)
Rice (any form)
Beans, except ones you can eat raw (like sugar snaps).
All processed sugars

I'm getting all of my carbs from fruits, veggies, and tubers (mainly sweet potatoes). Protein from meats and nuts. Thats about it. I don't feel hungry. I don't feel deprived anymore. Honestly, I feel better than when I was simply 'cutting calories' to get to a deficit. For long rides I'm eating 'dates' for long slow energy and small handfuls of walnuts.

Epic Story!!! Fantastic.
I cut out sugar and wheat, but have not been totally dedicated to it.
However, I'm on a trend, losing 8 lbs slowly and steadily. No bounce back.

Find what works for you, and do it.
