Welcome to the Weekly Inspiration Network!

Since many of us do a better job of sticking to our goals if we have a little public accountability, here's a way to get some support for your efforts towards a healthier you.

If this is your first time posting, let us know what is is you're trying to do, where you are now, and what your goal is. You might be trying to lose weight, or exercise more regularly, or home-cook more meals, or even spend more quality time with your family.

Then every week, let us know how you did the week before.

We'll read each others posts & cheer each other on.

Oh, and if Monday comes around and no one has started the new thread for the week yet -- feel free to copy this post, change the numbers and dates in the title, and get things started. Thanks!

I'm moving along with the "couch to 5k" running program, and I made it to the gym 4 times this week. I also had a meeting with a dietitian for about the first time in a year -- she suggested that I mix more weight-training into my routine.

The bad news: One of the systems that I use to track how active I've been and reward myself for it (The President's Challenge) has been down for about 2 weeks now, after hackers got a whole bunch of personal information from it. Who would have thought that anyone but me would be interested in how often I ride my bike?

Lifetime high: 255 lbs, September 2009
Recent best: 182 lbs, May 2011
Jan 9: 192.4 lbs
Jan 16: 191.4
Jan 23: 189.8

My goals last week:

Mail out Christmas presents (oops!)
Don't order anything over the Internet.
Do a couple of night rides and persuade Donna to come with me.
Maintain my weight within 2 pounds.

I met my goals for the week. I am maintaining my weight. I did several night rides, a couple with company. I mailed out the presents. I did order off the 'net but it was food so I am calling it a win. I am within my new, lower weekly shopping budget.
Goals for next week:

Maintain my weight
Find the guys I did the longer ride with and ride with them again
keep within my shopping budget
do some shorter but harder rides/intervals

My goal is to find a way to work through my knee issue enough that I can resume boxing. Want to do it 3x this week...

1/2/12 - 227.5 : start
1/23/12 - 216.0

Challenge this week and next is maintaining the program and momentum through three business trips in the space of 8 days. I'm actually going to bring some of my own food, at least for tomorrow's lunch and dinner.

I went back to my weight management support group last night. I'd been fighting it for a while. Due to a series of injuries and illnesses I had been without exercise for 6 months and fell back into some predictably bad eating habits... I gained more than I hoped I had, less than I feared I had and right about what I honestly thought I had... Which is to say 30 lbs... Back at it today, starting with tracking calories and walking, swimming, then back on the bike come Spring.

Managed to maintain my weight this week, so that is better then gain I suppose. Have not been able to ride for a couple of weeks due to weather and running taking priority right now. I'm going to have my body fat checked on Friday and get a new gym routine from the trainer that day too.

Started out at 286 pounds almost a year ago. Also found myself with high blood pressure and some other 50+ issues. I've been on and off the bike my whole adult life, but now I'm motivated to stay on it. The idea of dying slowly on the sofa scares the crap out of me. I've seen too many people having heart attacks and strokes in their 50's. I want to be the guy doing a century ride at 80.

Went to the doctor today for something unrelated and they checked my weight. 225. (I don't own a scale, so I won't obsess over daily fluctuations) The rate of loss has slowed with the winter months, but I'm still moving in a positive direction. If I keep up what I've been doing, I figure early to mid summer I ought to cross that 200 pound line.

This strategy actually worked out. I brought my own food (no liquids, though - I was flying), and managed to stick to my nutritional plan despite having to fly to two different meetings in two days. The only real challenge was one restaurant meal, but I just cut the portions in half as soon as I was served, so that worked out ok.

I've got to travel again next week, but I'm driving. My plan is to bring all my food with me in a cooler.

Hi!

I had a pretty decent 2011 weight loss wise; I lost 35 pounds, dipping from 290 to 255. My lofty goal for 2012 is to get under 200 lbs -- which I haven't been since I was 24 years old.

The last couple of weeks have been busy ones so there's been more eating out, and my food choices have ranged from great stuff (fresh fruits, whole grains, lower fat meat) to chicken wings and fries. I reined in the crummier choices by picking more salads at restaurants, and buying packs of freshly cut melon at the grocery store rather than heading for a coffee shop and their muffins.

My bike riding has curtailed in the last few weeks because of all of my errands but I'm walking a lot more. I miss bike riding and hopefully the snow will understand my need to spend the weekend riding and stay away.
