Looking at 61cm Felt Z100, I weigh ~240lbs
 

Anyone in my weight range own one of these? How are they holding up?

LBS has a good deal on a 2011. I was looking at the Trek 1.1 and Fuji 3.0 but this looks super nice as well.

From doing some research on this site, I see people feel pretty favorably about Felt in general.

And I know this question is like asking which shoe size I need, or how long is a piece of string- but does a 61cm bike feel all right for people around 6'7? I have no idea how a road bike should feel.

Also the brakes are on top. Is that a problem?

The 61 seems like it could be a tad small for you, but you simply have to get fit to find out. The Felt Z frames are nice. The 2011's are a really good deal. But get the LBS to fit you - my office mate is 6'7", and he rides a 63cm Trek, but the frame geo is different.

I agree - without seeing you, or knowing specific measurements, I'd hazard a guess that a 61 will be too small for you at 6'-7". Not that I'm anything like a standard to be measured against, but at 5'-10" I fit perfectly on a 56 or 57, depending on how the frame is measured (in a pinch, with some adjustment, I can ride a 54 or a 58, but it's not ideal). The nine inch difference in our heights is probably going to need more than a 5cm difference in frame size.

Still, the only way to know for sure is to go try it.

I'm 6'5" and ride a 60cm Cannondale CAAD9. Different frame geometry, but at my height it "should" be too small, and it took some parts changes to make it work, but I only have a 32" inseam so anything bigger would have been too tall... YMMV

Found a table with some info, looks like I might need a 64cm bike, so I might just be SoL in general. I guess there's really only one way to know, right?

Shame I won't have any frame of reference for a good fit.

6Ft Here with an inseam of 34 inches. Have a perfect fit on a Felt F-85 60cm with 175 crank arms.

Im 6'4" and 250. I ride a 60 Felt F75 and I feel pretty stretched when Im in the drops. Dont worry about the weight, Felts manual lists 300 as top weight for rider and cargo so you have plenty of room there. The only way to get the right fit is by going to an LBS and trying each model. My Trek commuter POS is a 58, but it feels bigger than my Felt

You mean there are two sets of brakes, like a cross bike....correct? This gives you the option of riding in a more upright, cruising position, or in the aero hands on the drops flying down the hill racer style and be able to hit either of the brake levers. I wish more road bikes would go with this dual brake option. I think for real world cyclists this is a great thing, we aren't all weight weenies wanting to get as light as possible. Some of us would like a bit more safety.

Rode around on the 61.. (Z85 actually) LBS guy said it looked too small for me and I needed to find a bigger bike.

So far the only bike I've found in the price range the Trek 1.5 and it's more expensive with lesser gear on it. Also, I can't find any trek dealer with a 1.5 (or 1-2.whatever) above 58cm to try...

So I think I'm pretty much stuck. Problem is, after some saddle time with the Felt, I really don't want to ride my hybrid again...

Specialized Secteur Comp Apex Compact and Roubaix SL3 Expert Compact come in a 64cm. They are kind of hard to find but they do exist.
